Sif. I awake from a dream I believe to be a portent of Thor's condition.

We need speak. At your leisure, of course, I've no immediacy in curing the Odinson's condition.

[That might be a lie. And he might look a bit grayish rather than pale, a bit rumpled as though this message was more important than grooming himself.]

...Guys...I think I'm...sick or something. I'm freezing cold. It's not even frost-breath. I don't know...

[Utsuho clicks on the camera. Her eyelids are baggy, and her lips and skin are tinged the blue of hypothermia. Her arms are shrunken and bony, and her wings have lost much of their feathers. She's dragging the arm cannon, as if it's too heavy for her to sling around anymore. All in all, she is withering away into a cold oblivion...]

...Naoi, Rory, anyone...I'm scared.

[She clicks off the video, but it seems like it's still going...the great sun-bird is now sniffling, and between her despaired breaths, she starts vaguely singing to herself, as if to calm herself:

"Lullaby of Deserted Hell."

She's not very good at singing, with her croaky raven voice, but it seems to contain the crying at least a bit.]

(OOC notes:

What symptoms will they have?: Utsuho is basically fading away, losing her fire an feathers, and overall looking like she's going to wither up and die. She also feels very cold to the touch, and her lips are turning blue, like she's hypothermic.
What will their essence rite will be?: Since she's fueled by a sun god, she needs some sort of very intense flame to be constructed and then herself thrown into it.
What is the dream hinting (or outright telling) helpers about the essence rite like?: Some sort of dream involving a boiling sun, a phoenix, people dancing around an impossibly white-hot bonfire, all of the above, have fun with it! But she needs something really hot, like molten metal or lava or something, to bring her back.
Are you open to anyone performing the essence rite?: Yes!

(SHODAN is sending out a broadcast message...but it will not be traceable to her unless you are a god of hacking. If you are, let me know. :) She is, after all, a super-AI...

The voice is a neutral and neuter one, robotic in its tone, not human like her body's or skipping and mutilated like her AI tone. It's synthesized up just for this.)

The Clock is the City's life and death.

Now is your chance to observe it.

Ignorance will be our destruction.

(And a set of coordinates appears here. They are for a location in the City. If you want to join up with whoever-it-is to search the Clock, a little robot emissary will be waiting for you at the coordinates. It will be there until someone shows up, or until it's clear the post is ignored.)

HEY ALL YOU SICKOS.

Since history (and the City) has a habit of repeating itself can you all start to forward your symptoms? There's got to be a composite diagnosis. Even if it is something supernatural.

I might have a sticker for you if you cooperate.

I suppose it is too much to expect any kind of peace in this place to last.

But, no, of course it can't. Even when we're given promises that we'll no longer have to suffer curses, even when we're shown that those curses can be held off, even when we're inundated with visitors who are treated more as honoured guests than as prisoners like ourselves, even when we're beginning to see that we might very well be given our freedom if we so choose it. No, of course none of that can last.

It's as though there's something in the very fabric of the City itself, something in the foundation of the place, something in the very ground on which it sits that sets itself forever against us.

I'm not ill, and I count myself very fortunate in that regard. And this is no mere curse. It's gone on for far too long.

I don't put the blame for it on the new regime here in the City--I'm not even certain what to call them yet. I could, and I might have in earlier days or earlier years. They remind me at times of the 'Stewards', who claimed to be able to send us back to our own worlds but meant really only to capture us. And yet, the 'Stewards' were excessively benevolent and seemed to bear no faults. These newcomers seem very much to have faults and they're not wholly benevolent. I can't trust them entirely, but they strike me as markedly different from what I've seen here before.

But still I wonder what the significance of it all is. Of this ordeal itself and of their responses to it and of their being here at all and all that's gone on in the City this month.

It's something to untangle another time.

[ooc: Not sick! But he is helping out with a few essence rites. So there's that. Which is nice. I guess. Sorry for my fail with Cain of late too. Just by the by...]

[ The City is his to explore for the moment. He's out of uniform, dressed plainly in dark-coloured coat and pants (yes, in the heat, perks of growing up in a desert). He hasn't done anything about the ears quite yet, but a hat is with him, half-poking out of a pocket, just in case. ]

[ The meandering appears to be random, but to anyone watching closely (or long enough) a discernible pattern emerges: a simple grid layout with delays between returns to certain points. He's checking back, double checking, too. Mostly, he can be found with his tricorder, occasionally peering quizzically at it, or observing a few people at the central arrival square. (Maybe he's even observing you.) ]

[ Once he gets the hang of the network, he opts for a simple text post. No need to unnecessarily alarm anyone who is unfamiliar with aliens, and furthermore, no need to bring attention to his presence. Khan may have unexpected allies. ]

Greetings. I am a recent arrival.

What is the highest level of technology available here? Is it freely available to the populace? Where might I find parts?

Your assistance is appreciated.
