[There's that tingly-tanglely feeling in the pit of her stomach that makes Buffy look up. She's not entirely surprised to see Angel but she is a bit hesitant. Last time he was here, he was pre-all-of-the-bad Angel. This time...she felt guilty hoping it was the same Angel. She's recently (still) dealing with everything back home and Giles and she doesn't know if she can deal with a that era Angel right now. It'd be nice to pretend she was sixteen for a little while and this Angel is a safe place. She stands up from where she's seated, takes a couple steps toward the door, a deep breath and then outside.]

Not a cemetery. This is starting to resemble a pattern.

[ luckily for her, the city has decided to cut her a break for once and it is that angel - the same one, in fact. he remembers being here, remembers talking to her and being shown around. it's why he's able to weave himself in and out of the crowds so easily. he stops when she steps out of one of the buildings, catching her scent easily. he crosses the street to meet her. ]

[Spike isn't thinking about saying hi. Spike is thinking about how he's suddenly been deposited in the middle of a strange city, in the middle of the day, with nothing but his coat to protect him. He knows from experience that it's not enough and that trying to make it enough will damage it, so he's swiped a tablecloth and is running for cover--when he dashes into the closet door.

A cafe full of windows. Bugger. Still, it's enough for him to get a short respite, beating out incipient flames and backing up into Buffy's table.]

[Oh God. Spike's on fire. Buffy reacts quickly. It's still cold enough that she wore a jacket to the cafe. She grabs it off the back of the chair and tosses it over his head, steering him by the shoulders back toward the back end of the cafe that's more shadowed.]

At least you know how to make an entrance.

[For the moment, the smell of singed flesh and the sound of his own cursing drowns out the reality. And he doesn't realize what's happened, or who has found him.]

[He pushes her away, instinctively, though with a new instinct laid over that keeps him from pushing hard. It's only when he emerges from the tablecloth and jacket, still smoking faintly, that he sees her and it's like the world stops for a moment before shuddering violently back into motion and he falls backwards, against the back wall, eyes haunted.]
