[The habit of someone who killed vampires for a living? Spike isn't able to push it, as Buffy's now running across the street. And then Spike's gearing up for his own sprint, huddling under a "borrowed" tablecloth and practically diving through the door as her invitation is made good.]

[She shuts the door behind him and walks up behind him, arms crossed over her chest. The warehouse actually probably looks rather scary. The center of the warehouse has been converted to a training room. There are weapons on the wall. One corner has a couch, tv and dvd player.]

Thanks. I wanted to have room when people showed up. Have a seat on the couch.

[Spike's still circling. Looks pretty homey, to him. He nods, impressed, and finally flops onto the couch.]

[She's on her device calling the blood delivery service in the City. She hangs up and shrugs]

Every few months people from home show up. Always temporarily. They stay for twenty four hours or so and then poof! Go back home.

But not you. [He's just confirming.] Huh. Pretty strange entertainment committee, got to say. [He's silent again, looking around, but his eyes keep darting back to her.]

Nope. I've been here...a while now. [A year and a half but she figures he won't exactly understand how that happens. She's not even sure how it happens.]

Yeah...I'm [She shrugs a bit. Happy isn't exactly what she would call herself.] I'm okay. It's not so bad here.

[Spike nods, and smiles a little, still drinking her in.]

[He's not expecting anything in return. It doesn't matter.]

[She's aware it's probably going to take him by surprise but he hops over the back of the couch and plops down beside him anyway.]

[She really does miss him whether he believes it or not.]

Yeah? [He sounds hopeful, almost.] Look, Buffy, I... [He swallows.] Never thought I'd see you again, but I always knew what I'd want to say. I'm sorry. Sorry I wasn't faster, better... sorry I couldn't save her. [Save you.]

[Buffy takes a deep breath, holding it until her chest aches then lets it out slowly.]

I...you tried, Spike. I know that and it's okay. I was ready to go.

[She forces a smile.] Besides, it's the biggest break I've gotten since I was sixteen. Vacation-y even.

[He's not sure how she can joke about something like that. She'd been dead. There's something different about her, he realizes. Almost as though...]

You trying to make me feel better, Buffy? [He looks baffled. She doesn't even like him all that much, to his knowledge.]
