[It's the ocean! The waves are tumbling and pretty decent today, and the device is on the sand, recording a slight figure in a blue and black neoprene wetsuit catching a wave and riding it, getting in the pipe, and then barreling out the other end.
In another minute she's coming out of the water, laughing - yes, laughing - and shaking her head to get the excess water off. She moves so her device, sets her surfboard upright in the sand and unzips her wetsuit down just a bit to get more sun.
When she speaks, her accent is a touch more Australian than it ever was, with the Namibian still in the background.]
There's a fierce curl out there today; Scholar would love this, I know I'm taking as much as I can out of it. Why isn't anyone else out here?
[She flops back, then remembers why she's out here. She grabs her device.]
I woke up and the hostel I'm staying at [she doesn't remember getting there or where she is but she's sure she's at a hostel] had this huge collection of shoes, so I put them out. I figure the owners will turn up and get them, because they're not mine. If they were mine I would have given them to a charity shop, they look pretty expensive.
[She flops back again]
Come on, someone come out here! The water's grand!

torqued!]

[He leans in a little, as if he might have misheard.]
I'm Robert, and it's not a big surf town. [The hand reaching to take hers gestures first towards the huge empty expanse of ocean.] Which is insane.
no subject
Well, yes, actually, it's Satya, but no one ever calls me that.
[But she seems to be pretty chipper. She shakes his hand and looks out at the ocean.]
That is insane. I've chased down worse swells like this on the North Coast.

[He tilts his head, raising an eyebrow.]
North coast. Right. Maybe the rest of us are more Bell's Beachers. You know. Discerning.
[The comment is straight faced, ruined almost immediately by an upward quirk to his lip.]
You don't sound like a native Sydneysider. [Unlocking the door.] Want to take a look?
no subject
I'm not, but my brother is.
You don't mind?
no subject
[Well, rarely, and he's just not sure how much she appreciates the place, uncursed. It's sandier than when he first fixed it up, the beach slowly coming back in, with a large trunk covered by a thin mattress at one end, boards given prime position in racks on both walls, a fridge and, hung out of the way, a hammock.]

You've got a good selection.
[She turns and beams]
This place is great. If I was ready to settle somewhere I'd want a place like this.
no subject
Is that something you're planning on? [From pulling off his trainers, he looks up.] Settling somewhere? Developing a steady accent?
no subject
No time soon. No point to it, really.

[She turns to look at him, and smiles; but it's not an amused smile, it's a sweet smile]
I'm don't really buy into trails, Robert.

[He's waist high with the wet suit by the time she turns to look, but nods toward the opposite wall.]
The middle one over there should be about your size. Your brother surfs, too?
no subject
[She goes to look it over!]
Thanks! Yeah, he taught me.

[He's been trying. He walks over to take the board down for her.]
no subject
Thank you.
Don't you get bored?

[Said with her board on her hip and a laugh on her face]

I'll hold you to it.

I'll do my best not to disappoint.

You're really something.
[What didn't happen, Satya?]

[She'll tell you all about herself]

It's been a long, long time.

[She moves up on her board to sit on it, looking out into the ocean]
I love this.

What else do you love?
