[It's the ocean! The waves are tumbling and pretty decent today, and the device is on the sand, recording a slight figure in a blue and black neoprene wetsuit catching a wave and riding it, getting in the pipe, and then barreling out the other end.

In another minute she's coming out of the water, laughing - yes, laughing - and shaking her head to get the excess water off. She moves so her device, sets her surfboard upright in the sand and unzips her wetsuit down just a bit to get more sun.

When she speaks, her accent is a touch more Australian than it ever was, with the Namibian still in the background.]

There's a fierce curl out there today; Scholar would love this, I know I'm taking as much as I can out of it. Why isn't anyone else out here?

[She flops back, then remembers why she's out here. She grabs her device.]

I woke up and the hostel I'm staying at [she doesn't remember getting there or where she is but she's sure she's at a hostel] had this huge collection of shoes, so I put them out. I figure the owners will turn up and get them, because they're not mine. If they were mine I would have given them to a charity shop, they look pretty expensive.

[She flops back again]

Come on, someone come out here! The water's grand!

[ Those... shoes... ] What the Hell's been put in your drink?

I don't feel like I was drugged.

I came into work this morning and all of your shoes are everywhere.

If this is a test of how much I'm willing to clean up after you, it's not very kind.

Are you sure you don't have me confused with someone else? Are you the hostel owner?

[ baffled pause. ]

Hi! Are you coming out?

I...I don't know how to surf.

Oh! I could teach you, it's not hard. There's a pretty protected part of the beach the reef takes the biggest brunt of the waves, it's a good place to learn.

I didn't know you liked the water so much.

I love the water!

[She can't help it. This is so ridiculous she has to come see it in person. She really does head down to the beach to take a look, shielding her eyes as she peers down the shoreline.]

[Saya is still on the beach, taking in the sun. Now her wetsuit is mostly unzipped - she has a bikini on underneath - and she's enjoying the sunshine.]

[When she spots her, she slips out of her shoes to pad over the warm sand, eventually plopping down next to her without any need for an invitation.]

You're certainly enjoying yourself.

Sure.

[Saya looks up at the teenager next to her]

Why wouldn't I?

I didn't imagine you surfing.

[Sun and sand was nothing unusual.]

I have to mop up my flat. But maybe after.

[Saya looks over; there's life in her eyes, there's something there today]

Why not? Did we meet at the hostel? Because I think I must have gotten ripped, I don't remember a thing.

The water shouldn't wait. Your flat will still be there, you know.

It'll be soggy.

[Ugh. Gross, Saya. Carla looks back at her, faintly condescending.]
