[ Ariadne is sitting on the couch, an orange kitten curled up on her lap. Behind her is a man, who seems to be holding a cup of coffee and looking out the window. ]

Well. [ She pauses, rubbing the back of her neck. ] My father's here, but if anyone else would like to say hello or needs anything, I'm still available. He said he'll be going out for a walk in a little bit anyway.

[ As if on cue, the man pulls away from the window and heads for the kitchen. Ariadne watches him go, some of the tension gone when she looks back at the camera. ]

I'm Ariadne. Welcome to the City.

[Big big eyes are looking up at you, Ariadne.]

[landlocks]

[ A young man is kneeling beside her as she speaks, trying to button the buttons of her coat. ] Abi, maybe we shouldn't bother the nice lady.

[She just looks up at him now]

But she said I could say hello!

[landlocks]

[ He has a knitted hat, which he pulls off of his head and tries to straighten onto hers. It's too big so it flops to one side, hopelessly. ]

And now you've said hello.

Don't you want to say hello too?

[The hat slips off her head and she reaches to put it back on his.]

[landlocks]

[ He seems to consider this before finally raising her own device up again so that he can over a polite smile to Ariadne on the other end of the connection. Kristian pulls the hat off his head before speaking. ] Hello, Ariadne.

[ He raises his eyebrows at Abi. ] Better?

[oceansjoy]

Thank you, Kris.

[landlocks]

[ He reaches up. Tweaks her nose. ]

You want to go on that walk now? See what we can see?

[oceansjoy]

Okay but you can't let go of my hand.

[Which she offers.]

[landlocks]

[ He takes it, carefully, pushing himself up to standing again. ]

And why on earth would I ever want to do something like that, huh?

[oceansjoy]

I don't know! Sometimes you're tricky.

[That's not true - sometimes she's just mischief]

I don' wanna lose you.

[ There's a slight laugh. ]

Hello. Is she a friend of yours?

[landlocks]

[ He smiles apologetically. Kristian really doesn't mean to bother anyone, especially not on a day like today. ]

She is, actually, yes. We're sort of related.

[boutant]

Your sister?

[landlocks]

More like...distant cousin?

[boutant]

She's cute. You two seem to get along pretty well.

[boutant]

[ Oh-- Now she knows what it's like to be on the other side of a gaze like that. ]

Kris says I shouldn't bug you.

[boutant]

I don't mind. [ The kitten on her lap mewls, and Ariadne laughs slightly. ] Neither does Biscuit.

[ A little orange paw reaches out to bat at the device. ]

I think he likes you.

[oceansjoy]

Really?

[She's peering!]

[boutant]

Definitely.

[ Another paw at the device. ]

All I know about kitties is that you shouldn't put them in the tub.

Well, sometimes they have to go in the tub, but most of them don't really like it.
