[ Ariadne is sitting on the couch, an orange kitten curled up on her lap. Behind her is a man, who seems to be holding a cup of coffee and looking out the window. ]

Well. [ She pauses, rubbing the back of her neck. ] My father's here, but if anyone else would like to say hello or needs anything, I'm still available. He said he'll be going out for a walk in a little bit anyway.

[ As if on cue, the man pulls away from the window and heads for the kitchen. Ariadne watches him go, some of the tension gone when she looks back at the camera. ]

I'm Ariadne. Welcome to the City.

I don't mind. [ The kitten on her lap mewls, and Ariadne laughs slightly. ] Neither does Biscuit.

All I know about kitties is that you shouldn't put them in the tub.

Well, sometimes they have to go in the tub, but most of them don't really like it.

We don't have kitties at home. No pets allowed.

[boutant]

I don't have any kitties at home, either.

[oceansjoy]

Where do you come from? Have you been to Maine? I'm from Maine. Do you have a lot of kitties or just one? Does he ever scratch you? Do you like the beach?

[Bam, floodgates]

[ Luckily Ariadne's good at keeping up. ]

I'm from the Midwest originally, by the Great Lakes. I've never been to Maine but I've been to France. I was going to school in Paris, so I guess that's where I'm from now. I have Biscuit and then my roommate has another cat, Rhada. We also have a bird named Waffle and a dog named Pancake. He scratches me sometimes, but usually on accident. I like the beach quite a bit. Do you?

I love the beach! That's where Kris and I are going, because it's the best place ever especially if you have your coat which I do but Kris doesn't. It's okay because I'mma find him one.

[boutant]

Isn't he cold?

Oh, ummmmmm.

[She's not supposed to talk about that, right?]

He has a sweater.

[boutant]

Well, that's good.

[ She has no idea that she could mean something other than a jacket when she says 'coat'. ]

You'll make sure he stays warm, right?

I will, he's trying to make me wear his hat but I'm not gonna let him.

[boutant]

As long as you stay warm, too. But your coat probably has a hood, right? So that'll work.
