[ Coulson's sitting on a bench in the park. There's a black labrador puppy curled up by his feet, tongue lolling out.

To the very trained and familiar observer, it'll be clear that Coulson's still holding himself a little more stiffly than usual, but for the most part he looks relaxed and calm. Approachable, even. ]

I'm going to have to find you a name, won't I? [ The puppy whines happily.

Coulson shakes his head slowly. When he speaks again, his voice in the same deliberate and even tone, he seems to be addressing empty air: ] Barton, if you're going to follow me around, at least be more subtle about it.

[ ooc; Feel free to run into him at the park or on his way home. Coulson adopted a puppy from Thor. Also, tags may or may not contain spoilers, so proceed with caution? ]

[ He shrugs, not commenting on the way that Phil's face lights up at the mere sight of them, but he does decide that he loves how it can do that, break away from the usual mask. ]

It's no big deal. Someone had to save them from Fury. [ He did manage to find a replacement card for the one that took the most damage, but, well, he ended up in the city before it arrived. ]

[ Softly: ] You know what they mean to me.

[ In other words, it is a big deal, and thank you for caring so much. ]

[ He shrugs again, covering it up as he fusses over the puppy, and, okay, he's in love with this ball of fluff. ]

If the way you swoon over them when you think no one's looking is anything to go by, sir, then, sure, I know.

[ Which can also be translated as you're welcome. ]

I don't swoon, Barton. [ But look at him carefully taking out the cards and looking at them one by one.

It's okay, he's in love with the ball of fluff that is his puppy as well. ]

No, sir, what was I thinking? Of course you don't.

[ He'll keep the card examination between the two of them. He did clean them up as much as he could. ]

Exactly. [ Glad they've cleared this up.

Though it is heartwarming.

Once he's finished with his examination of the cards, he puts them away carefully, before leaning down to pet Fury as well. The puppy's in heaven. And if his fingers brush Clint's in thanks, well. No one has to know. ]

[ He smiles to himself, a secret and well-concealed gesture, because it's hypocritical to mock a swooner when he's doing it internally himself.

He helps Fury wriggle over to Phil, watches as he stretches up to lick at his face, and he could witness this all day. ] Adorable.

He is pretty cute, yeah. [ And he'll grow up to be less so, probably, but for now Phil absolutely cannot argue that charge. Fury is adorable.

Turning his face so Fury's licking his cheek, eyes crinkling as he smiles at Clint. ]

[ Mumbling beneath his breath. ] I wasn't talking about the dog.

[ He flashes him a grin, because, really, this is too much, and as much as he knew another side of Phil had to exist he never thought he would see the day. ]

[ He heard that, and his ears are not turning pink. Except they kind of are. ]

Barton—

Whatever you think you heard, you imagined it, Coulson. It was the wind.

[ Except that there isn't really any wind. ]

Of course.

[ Right. Taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly. ]

[ Silence falls around them, but Clint finds it comfortable, stroking the dog where Phil's hand doesn't cover.

But then. ] Were you going somewhere?

[ Phil's not looking at how close their hands get, sometimes. ]

No. Just walking Fury, but it seems he prefers cuddling.

He's a lucky pup, good thing you rescued him from Thor when you did. [ Not that Thor wasn't good with them, but still.

He's not worried about the whole being shot thing, of course not. ] Do you need anything picking up?

I'm sure he would have been fine. [ But he's glad, too. Fury's already wormed his way into his heart. ]

Barton— [ Turning to look at him. ]

Clint. I'm fine.

Did he ever tell you how he got hold of so many? [ It bugs him that he's not figured that out.

He looks back, shrugging with his brow, eyes closing a little in the process. ] Never said you weren't. I'm just a bored guy offering to help. Purely selfish. And I might be avoiding going back to the apartment in case Tasha's blown something up.

I haven't gotten a straight answer yet. [ More investigation is needed. ]

All right. [ Wait. ] She better not blow anything up near my room.

Something tells me we'll never know.

[ Quietly laughing. ] I'll set up surveillance. If she destroys anything, we'll have evidence.

It could be worse. [ They could be lacking intel on something that is actually important. ]

She knows better than to leave evidence.

Agreed. There's no alien involvement, so we're winning already. [ Being stuck in one place is clearly getting to them all in some degree. ]

Damn it, why do we like her again?

For the time being. [ Phil should be glad to be stuck here. He's dead elsewhere. Still, it does get to him a little.

not that he'd let it show. ]

Because she's a highly trained agent, very efficient and your friend. [ Maybe his, too. He's never quite sure. ]

[ Clint wants to remain in the city forever because of that reason. He can take the boredom. ]

She is handy to have around. Twenty-four seven protection.

[ Oh Clint. Phil isn't sure whether he approves. Clint has a life back home. The world needs the Avengers.

Though it isn't like time passes and he selfishly likes having Clint here. ]

Don't let her hear you talk like that or you will need protection from her.

[ It's okay, he's got no plans of going anywhere. ]

Sir, I always need protection from her, she says hello with a bruise.
