[ Coulson's sitting on a bench in the park. There's a black labrador puppy curled up by his feet, tongue lolling out.

To the very trained and familiar observer, it'll be clear that Coulson's still holding himself a little more stiffly than usual, but for the most part he looks relaxed and calm. Approachable, even. ]

I'm going to have to find you a name, won't I? [ The puppy whines happily.

Coulson shakes his head slowly. When he speaks again, his voice in the same deliberate and even tone, he seems to be addressing empty air: ] Barton, if you're going to follow me around, at least be more subtle about it.

[ ooc; Feel free to run into him at the park or on his way home. Coulson adopted a puppy from Thor. Also, tags may or may not contain spoilers, so proceed with caution? ]

Doesn't matter. He's still a bunch of cuteness on four legs. Don't deny him that.

If you need some vet recs, let me know. I would suggest my girl for play dates, but she's probably a little too big for him right now. However, I do have another dog that's still a puppy and male, if you're interested.

[Angela swings the camera over to a corner of her bedroom, where there's one border collie sleeping on a very brightly colored dog bed and on top of the border collie, there's a Great Dane puppy with suspiciously large paws that hint to his future size.]

Princess Biscuit, Duchess of Bark and Finnick, at your service.

I'd appreciate it.

[ He's not quite smiling at the dogs, but his face softens a little. ] You're quite creative with names. Do you shorten them, though? Or is it full names every time?

She answers to just Biscuit. I named her the whole thing because somebody told me I couldn't name a dog Biscuit and I wanted to prove to them that not only could I do that, I can do it anyway I pleased.

[Angela smiles as she explains the origins of that long royal canine title, but it falters on the next part.]

I didn't name Finnick. He originally belonged to a boyfriend who named it after a friend of his. But neither of them are here in the City anymore, so poor Finnick got stuck with me.

So you named her to be contrary. I see.

[ He wouldn't be who he is if he didn't pick up on that. ] I'm sorry.

[She shakes her head, not quite brushing off his apology, but wordlessly accepting it at the same time. Angela's heard a lot of them this month and they all just become one big blur of well-meaning platitudes after a while.]

It's my nature. I wouldn't be me if I didn't do half the shit I do.

[ With a small smile: ] I think I'll name him Fury.

Fury? Why Fury?

[He doesn't look like a furious kind of dog, but Angela only sees cute right now through adorable-colored glasses.]

My boss is named Fury. It— fits. [ And it'll irritate Nick, which together with her naming her dogs just to be contrary and the fact that Fury got blood on his cards seems like a good thing. ]

Your boss is named Fury.

[Angela chuckles because having a boss named Fury cannot ever be a good thing.]

That being the reason, I find myself agreeing wholeheartedly with naming that guy Fury. If you get in trouble for it, I'll help take the blame.

He is. [ A beat. ]

I appreciate the help.

Don't worry about it. Once upon a time, someone helped me. I'm just passing it on because that's how I am. I pass things on. Like marijuana and colds.

[Angela, what are you even sometimes.]

I'm Angela, by the way. Angela Montenegro.

I hope you won't hold it against me if I pass on both of those.

[ What even. ]

Phil Coulson. Nice to meet you.

A little bit. A smidgen. Only because I know my lifestyle isn't for the general masses.

[She kids, Phil. Get used to her antics.]

Likewise. How long have you been here? I haven't seen your face around here before.

What a relief. [ Completely deadpan and dry. ]

I only arrived ten days ago.

Oh, that explains why. I'm sorry, I was preoccupied. I would have thrown you and Fury a welcoming party or brought over a cake.

[A beat and then one of her patented grins.]

I don't bake, by the way.

That's all right. I wasn't really up for partying.

[ Understatement of the year... ]

Understandable. Nobody wants to celebrate when they get here unless they are me and they make the dumb mistake of treating this place like a mini-vacation for the first month.

[Oh, how long ago that was...]

I'm not unhappy about being here.

[ It's better than being dead. ]

It has its bright spots, don't let me lead you wrong. Some of the people here have become family to me, but sometimes, I just want to go home on my own terms.

So for how long have you been here?

Three years. Went back home for six months, though, so you can subtract those from the total time if you feel up for some wacky time fun.
