[debrief]

[ Coulson's sitting on a bench in the park. There's a black labrador puppy curled up by his feet, tongue lolling out.

To the very trained and familiar observer, it'll be clear that Coulson's still holding himself a little more stiffly than usual, but for the most part he looks relaxed and calm. Approachable, even. ]

I'm going to have to find you a name, won't I? [ The puppy whines happily.

Coulson shakes his head slowly. When he speaks again, his voice in the same deliberate and even tone, he seems to be addressing empty air: ] Barton, if you're going to follow me around, at least be more subtle about it.

Captain America already has a dog.

If they all gain super powers, you could have a secondary team- the pet Avengers. Rather gimmicky, but think of the merchandising.

I could have a secondary team? [ He doesn't even have the Avengers.

Did I say that? [Tips his head and only smiles.] Of course, I meant that nice lady with the tight outfit on television, Agent Hill.

You going to give him a kill command? I saw that once on Columbo. It was 'rosebud.' Only, do not use that one, it is too obvious now.

I have a roommate. Otherwise, it is not so bad. Like a metronome, one grows used to it.

Good to know. [ Seeing how he hasn't really been alone since his arrival, he wouldn't know. ]

That one grows used to it or that company alleviates it? I should think neither. Or both.

Perhaps neither on your part since you seem the sort who can filter out minute distractions. Are you that sort?

Would you call the ticking a minute distraction, though?

I suppose that depends on one's point of view. I should hardly think it would be a major distraction given that we are all being held captive by deities in an inter-dimensional city called the City.

It certainly seems more— insistent.

Like it is ticking down to the end of all creation? Some things are more pressing to some people, then imminent destruction.

I'd say imminent destruction seems quite pressing.

Which is why I leave that to the pros and keep myself in pace with day to day survival. You know there are things here with literally no weakness? Yeah.
