It's funny, how all our stories about objects of power have some catch. Unimaginable rewards, their allure tempered only by the unimaginable price one must pay to wield them-- as though our psyches are hardwired to remind us that power corrupts, and while absolute power corrupts absolutely, it does so only to those who've proven they're willing to wield it while knowing the very mastery they seek will undo their own humanity, in the end.
