[Jack is standing in the square, looking up and around at the City and then back down at the Vortex Manipulator on his wrist.] Oh, come on. You had to malfunction now? I mean you've done it before, but...
[Another few brisk taps at the wristband.] Work! If you don't work, a lovely second in command named Bernard is going to be very disappointed when he's stood up. And seriously, of all the places...
[Another sigh as he looks around him again. No way had he wanted to come back to Earth yet. It had been a couple of months but all that guilt he carried still felt as if he'd only acquired it yesterday. He wasn't ready to be here on Earth again. At least it seemed Earth-like...]
Well isn't this nifty? And convenient... [He spots the device and eyes it for a few accessing moments before picking it up. It's rare that Jack shies away from alien technology so he he instantly begins to fiddle with it. The video comes on to a brightly smiling Jack.] Ah, there we go. Captain Jack Harkness here. [And since he knows his smile is impressive, he nods his agreement with what others obviously must be thinking at the sight of it.] I know.
Seems I'm a little bit off course from where I intended to materialize. Malfunctioning Vortex Manipulator. Anyone care to put me up for the night while I work on repairing it? [A glance to his left at the coffee shop and then an arched brow back into the video screen.] I'll be sure to con you a cup of coffee for your trouble.

Had the baby yet? I bet Rhys is over the moon, figuratively speaking.

... what's the last thing you know from Cardiff, Jack?

We said goodbye. [His voice carries with it the sadness that it entails. But he quickly adds a joke to cover it up.] Forget about me already, Gwen? You wound my heart.
[ locked video ]
It's been a while since you left, and a lot of things have happened. You came back, for one. The world... changed. The Miracle changed everything.
You know I couldn't forget you.
You should know... Ianto and Tosh are here in the City.
[ locked video ]
[Yes, he heard what she's said. He doesn't understand anything about the Miracle she's talking about. But more importantly, he heard her say Ianto and Tosh are here. He's going to take a moment and ignore that so he can absorb it and instead ask a question that really doesn't matter.] What City is this?
[ locked video ]
[She takes a moment to transmit all the information she has about the City.]
It has no name. From what I can tell, it's a dimensional nexus of some sort. I'd almost blame the rift for doing it, but the people here are pulled from all times and places. There are aliens, vampires, angels, multiple Time Lords... well, just one, but a few versions of him.
Once you're here, you can't go back on your own until the City itself is ready to let you go.
... death has no hold here, either. You die, but you wake up a day later, no heartbeat, no breathing except out of habit.
A word, also... Ianto doesn't know what happens to him with the 456. He's not there yet. It really is him, Jack. He's alive here. Tosh is from after losing her and Owen. They're both real.
[ locked video ]
Sounds like the rift alright. Only thing I can think of that could pull people in from all times and places. But that would mean it's open and I'm pretty sure it'd go both ways, pulling people in and taking people out.
Dimensional nexus...
[He tries to give that some thought but then his mind slips into everything else Gwen had said. He's gonna have to face it. And it isn't necessarily a bad thing that they're here, aside from his own knowledge of and feelings for those people and what happened to them because of him.]
You're sure it's them? Gwen, I need you to be absolutely sure cause... [He doesn't finish that sentence, just takes a deep breath instead.]
[ locked video ]
Jack, if you want somewhere to get a little space to think before you get into seeing them, you're welcome to crash at my place. It's just me here, and honestly, I'd love the company.
[ locked video ]
Just you? We can't have that, now can we? Where can I find you? And where's Rhys and Anwen? Not here?
[ locked video ]
Just a moment... I'll send you a map and such.
[And sure enough, there's the promised map as well as directions to her place.]
I assume they're back home. I haven't heard from them since I got here.
[ locked video ]
[He draws another deep breath and looks down to the device, checking the map, glad to be looking away from her when he asks the next question.] And Owen? [Because if Ianto and Tosh were here...]
[ locked video ]
... ah. I've done some research into old records here and have found evidence that all of us have been here in the past. As of now... he's not.
[ locked video ]
And what do we know of these Deities everyone says are in charge? What species are they?
[ locked video ]
They appear humanoid, but that's really all we know. They're not human, and that's for certain. To be honest, they seem like middle men, which is pretty pitiful, if you think about it.
[ locked video ]
But in the meantime... [There's a knock on her door and Jack will be there standing on the other side of it.]
[ locked video ]
[The knock makes her head turn, then the device is forgotten. Out of habit, a gun is in her free hand as she opens the door, but once she sees who it is, it's quickly settled back into place.]
About bloody time. I thought you'd gotten lost.
[ locked video ]
And since it's been awhile since he's seen Gwen,] I missed you, Gwen Cooper. You missed me too, right? I'm very missable, I know this. It's other people who sometimes fail to notice my missability.
[action]
[The hug is beyond welcome and immediately returned. She's missed him more than she can express, but the tight arms around his waist should give a hint.]
... 'course I missed you. 'm glad you're here.
[action]
He pulls back just enough to take either side of Gwen's face in his hands and give her a kiss to the lips. Then he stays close, his hands resting on her shoulders.] See a lot of aliens here, huh? The kind that need shooting at?
[action]
Not so long ago and a kiss like that would've been hard for her to resist, but now she just smiles wryly up at him before reaching up to lay a hand on his arm.]
There's always monsters, Jack. Better to be prepared.
[action]
I don't guess since you live alone that you would mind a roommate, on a semi permanent basis, of course should Rhys and your little bundle of joy arrive here too. I'll try to pace quietly while you're sleeping. And I promise not to put the moves on you... strike that, I don't promise not to... I'll just quit digging myself a hole here and let you say yes. You shouldn't be alone, Gwen.
[action]
Smile faltering a little, she squeezes his arm before stepping back and pulling him a bit more into the rather large apartment she's taken over as her own.]
No wearing out the carpets while you pace and if Rhys and Anwen show up, you'll still be welcome here. You'll always be welcome. Honestly, I've missed having a familiar face around full time.

[action]
They're living in a house on the beach. I'll show you where, if you're interested and yes, we're separated, by my own choice. I arrived here and people claimed to recognize me, and I'll admit, it was a bit of a creep for me. Mercy claimed she'd lived with us and been friends with all of us and she knew far too much for my comfort. I moved in here and when the others arrived, they decided to stay with her instead.
