[Jack is standing in the square, looking up and around at the City and then back down at the Vortex Manipulator on his wrist.] Oh, come on. You had to malfunction now? I mean you've done it before, but...
[Another few brisk taps at the wristband.] Work! If you don't work, a lovely second in command named Bernard is going to be very disappointed when he's stood up. And seriously, of all the places...
[Another sigh as he looks around him again. No way had he wanted to come back to Earth yet. It had been a couple of months but all that guilt he carried still felt as if he'd only acquired it yesterday. He wasn't ready to be here on Earth again. At least it seemed Earth-like...]
Well isn't this nifty? And convenient... [He spots the device and eyes it for a few accessing moments before picking it up. It's rare that Jack shies away from alien technology so he he instantly begins to fiddle with it. The video comes on to a brightly smiling Jack.] Ah, there we go. Captain Jack Harkness here. [And since he knows his smile is impressive, he nods his agreement with what others obviously must be thinking at the sight of it.] I know.
Seems I'm a little bit off course from where I intended to materialize. Malfunctioning Vortex Manipulator. Anyone care to put me up for the night while I work on repairing it? [A glance to his left at the coffee shop and then an arched brow back into the video screen.] I'll be sure to con you a cup of coffee for your trouble.

He pulls back just enough to take either side of Gwen's face in his hands and give her a kiss to the lips. Then he stays close, his hands resting on her shoulders.] See a lot of aliens here, huh? The kind that need shooting at?
[action]
Not so long ago and a kiss like that would've been hard for her to resist, but now she just smiles wryly up at him before reaching up to lay a hand on his arm.]
There's always monsters, Jack. Better to be prepared.
[action]
I don't guess since you live alone that you would mind a roommate, on a semi permanent basis, of course should Rhys and your little bundle of joy arrive here too. I'll try to pace quietly while you're sleeping. And I promise not to put the moves on you... strike that, I don't promise not to... I'll just quit digging myself a hole here and let you say yes. You shouldn't be alone, Gwen.
[action]
Smile faltering a little, she squeezes his arm before stepping back and pulling him a bit more into the rather large apartment she's taken over as her own.]
No wearing out the carpets while you pace and if Rhys and Anwen show up, you'll still be welcome here. You'll always be welcome. Honestly, I've missed having a familiar face around full time.
[action]
[action]
They're living in a house on the beach. I'll show you where, if you're interested and yes, we're separated, by my own choice. I arrived here and people claimed to recognize me, and I'll admit, it was a bit of a creep for me. Mercy claimed she'd lived with us and been friends with all of us and she knew far too much for my comfort. I moved in here and when the others arrived, they decided to stay with her instead.
[action]
He can't quite understand why any of his team wouldn't stay with Gwen. Jack wasn't going to let Gwen be alone anymore if he had anything to do with it. But one thing did catch his attention. Who the hell was this Mercy person?] Someone else said that name. Mercy. Do we have an Adam situation going on here? Someone inserting themselves into our lives without our realizing it?
[action]
Smiling faintly, she motions for him to follow her. After all, a tour is in order, right?]
I don't think it was with malicious intent. She genuinely seems like a nice sort. She just knows too much for comfort.
[As she walks, it's pretty clear that the apartment is huge... and not very personal. Very few things around the various rooms show the kind of person Gwen is. It's pretty, but very spartan.]
I've done some digging in the network and there is evidence of us being here before. There's even a Hub that we constructed. I've seen it. It's... definitely our work.
[action]
Yeah, it's definitely not comfortable. Can't say I like it. Can't say I like that Ianto and Tosh are there and not here with you. [And he's still going to add a silent 'if they are Ianto and Tosh' in his mind. Cause he's still working on wrapping his brain around that, on pushing his guilt so deep that it isn't bubbling at the surface anymore where it's almost bubbling over.
And he pauses at one room that has barely anything in it. Obviously not the one she's using to sleep in.] Mind if I take over this one?
[action]
I don't like it either, but they chose to live with her. I wasn't about to force the issue. She wanted me there, too. Claimed to have things of mine, in fact.
[There's the briefest of shrugs before she glances up to see the room he's chosen. It's not her bedroom, but right next door, so she'd be close if he needed anything at odd hours.]
'course not. I'm happy to share the space. The ticking's been driving me mad. I'm glad it's gone now.
[action]
Ticking? What ticking? [Jack had been Mr. Social and go-go-go since arriving so he had yet to hear it, of course.]
ooc: Also, Jack is dragging Gwen with him for drinks with Nine. LOL He won't take no for an answer cause he needs to look after her, he thinks.
[action]
[She shrugged again before she stepped into the hallway to point out a nearby bathroom. As spartan as the place was, it just felt safer than settling in a house that offered far too much apparent comfort.
Seems like Gwen's become a bit jaded in her 'old age', doesn't it?
At his question, she idly waves a hand around as if to explain something that's really quite unexplainable.]
When you're alone in the City, you hear a constant ticking, like a clock. It goes all quiet when you're around people. Pets help with it, too, from what I hear.
[ooc: Oh boy. XD She'll have a ball!]
[action]
[He turns back to her finally, flashing a large grin before moving to the kitchen as he listens about the ticking to see if they need to get a coffee machine or not. Priorities, he obviously has them.]
Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I'm not sure we can fit a Pterodactyl in this apartment. [Of course he doesn't think of getting a dog or a cat. No, they'd have to find something weird to be a pet if they went that route.]
[action]
[Chuckling, she follows after him. A shame he'll more than likely be disappointed when the kitchen has a small coffee maker at best, but that's one of the few rooms that shows signs of any real character in it.]
I would want to clean up after one. Downright messy.
[action]
[He's teasing, of course. But he turns around, leaning back against the kitchen counter with his arms crossed over his chest.]
So, you going to get all territorial if I try to liven this place up a bit?
[action]
Help yourself. It could use a little livening up.
