[Jack is standing in the square, looking up and around at the City and then back down at the Vortex Manipulator on his wrist.] Oh, come on. You had to malfunction now? I mean you've done it before, but...

[Another few brisk taps at the wristband.] Work! If you don't work, a lovely second in command named Bernard is going to be very disappointed when he's stood up. And seriously, of all the places...

[Another sigh as he looks around him again. No way had he wanted to come back to Earth yet. It had been a couple of months but all that guilt he carried still felt as if he'd only acquired it yesterday. He wasn't ready to be here on Earth again. At least it seemed Earth-like...]

Well isn't this nifty? And convenient... [He spots the device and eyes it for a few accessing moments before picking it up. It's rare that Jack shies away from alien technology so he he instantly begins to fiddle with it. The video comes on to a brightly smiling Jack.] Ah, there we go. Captain Jack Harkness here. [And since he knows his smile is impressive, he nods his agreement with what others obviously must be thinking at the sight of it.] I know.

Seems I'm a little bit off course from where I intended to materialize. Malfunctioning Vortex Manipulator. Anyone care to put me up for the night while I work on repairing it? [A glance to his left at the coffee shop and then an arched brow back into the video screen.] I'll be sure to con you a cup of coffee for your trouble.

[She notices the not so subtle inspection, but she really doesn't care. It's Jack, after all. He's as close as family.]

I don't like it either, but they chose to live with her. I wasn't about to force the issue. She wanted me there, too. Claimed to have things of mine, in fact.

[There's the briefest of shrugs before she glances up to see the room he's chosen. It's not her bedroom, but right next door, so she'd be close if he needed anything at odd hours.]

'course not. I'm happy to share the space. The ticking's been driving me mad. I'm glad it's gone now.

Apparently I'm the only one that felt like that.

[She shrugged again before she stepped into the hallway to point out a nearby bathroom. As spartan as the place was, it just felt safer than settling in a house that offered far too much apparent comfort.

Seems like Gwen's become a bit jaded in her 'old age', doesn't it?

At his question, she idly waves a hand around as if to explain something that's really quite unexplainable.

When you're alone in the City, you hear a constant ticking, like a clock. It goes all quiet when you're around people. Pets help with it, too, from what I hear.

[ooc: Oh boy. XD She'll have a ball!]

Ah, but I'm immune to your charms after all these years, Jack.

[Chuckling, she follows after him. A shame he'll more than likely be disappointed when the kitchen has a small coffee maker at best, but that's one of the few rooms that shows signs of any real character in it.]

I would want to clean up after one. Downright messy.

[She can't help but smile at that so sure attitude of his. It's charming, no doubt, but it's so inherently Jack that it's a welcome relief.}

Help yourself. It could use a little livening up.
