Hi, I want to introduce myself. My name is Uhura. Apparently, I've been here before, but I have no memory of that, so I feel like it would be best to start from the ground up. I apologize if I have forgotten something important about you.

I do have a question for everybody: what languages do you know other than the one I'm speaking in now?

[Spock hasn't been hovering nearby, but he's been giving her enough space. After she's been on the network a while, responding to whoever hails her, he approaches, watches.]

[It's nice to have space when you're getting the lay of the land and people where they remember you and you don't. Uhura glances up and nods, humming out her answer before turning off device the completely.]

Mmhmm. Russian seems popular here, a few other people speak dead languages fluently, and there's somebody else who's interested in learning Swahili so I'm going to teach her.

[She might even like it here.]

One of the native Russian speakers. I didn't catch her name yet, but she also speaks Italian and Latin. [She starts smiling a little, setting the device aside next to her on the couch.] I'm not going to charge her.

Latin is also reasonably popular?

[She did mention dead languages.]

That and French. Honestly, how much use are these people getting out of these languages? I want to follow them around all day and see.

[She is going to throw herself into this, nose stuck in the proverbial book.]

Unclear. I am not aware of a curse that would result in residents of the City speaking a different language, but it is not implausible.

[phonetical]

I'll probably regret saying this, but I think I'd love to be here for that kind of curse.

[A beat and then a smirk.]

Arr. [SOMEBODY TOLD HER. OF COURSE THEY DID.]

[He'd prefer that curse over - well. Pirates.]

Yes. I was recently a pirate.

I'm sad I missed it. You really should have kept the eyepatch.

[logistical]

It is currently in the Captain's possession. He desired a souvenir.

[Pause.]

He also kept record of the text messages.

[She shakes her head. This is unacceptable.]

You think he would give it to me?

[logistical]

[A frown.]

There is no logical reason for him to refuse.

He better not. I should get first dibs.

[A change in the subject is needed as a though occurs to her and she pats one of the cushions next to her, pulling her legs under her.]

By the way, we need to talk about something.

[logistical]

[Uh-oh, talking about something. At least it's better than the silent treatment, and it doesn't sound ominous...]

[He resists the urge to simply touch her hand and determine it.]

[Good idea resisting it. Sometime Uhura prefers to verbalize things.]

I'm going to get my own place. I'm really not comfortable with a curtain as a door.

[Making sure he knows it's not him, but the lack of privacy that drove her decision. Uhura's concerned Jim does not know how to knock.]

Do you have a specific location in mind?

[If she wants this, she's thought it out, and thus he has no reason to question it. He simply fetches a map and passes it to her, letting her look over other locations.]

It would be more convenient if you stayed nearby.

[Khan's still in the city, but more than that, Spock doesn't want to have to travel for too long to see her.]

[She takes the map, but sets it aside. She doesn't need it. She's already decided where she's moving to.]

Upstairs, actually. Next floor up.

[Close enough to be around if Khan acts up, but far away that they both have their own space. And especially close enough if they need each other.]

[He nods approvingly, relieved that it's not far.]

Would you like a bag, for your spare clothes? I can transfer your things there promptly.

[phonetical]

[Oh god, Uhura breaks into a laugh because really, Spock. The way you say things. If she didn't know him well enough, she would have taken that the wrong way.]

Kicking me out already? That was quick.

[logistical]

[He just looks really confused.]

You have selected an appropriate location, expressed that you do not wish to stay in this one, you do not appear otherwise occupied, does it not follow that you would like to settle in as soon as possible?

[phonetical]

[She's still laughing, reaching to pat her hand against his cheek.]

I'm good to pack by myself. [Her laughter turns to a frown as she realizes something.] I don't have much anyway.

[A year here according to Chekov and nothing to show for it.]

Personal possessions here are frequently transferred to others, as one may disappear any moment.
