Chekov! I do believe I have the final adjustments made on the rebuilt circuits, if you should happen to be up for a test run by any chance. I must confess, I'm quite eager to see if it will truly take flight again. I had all but written that particular modification off as a loss entirely.

If it does work again, well -- I may be getting a bit ahead of myself here, but I'm certain it could prove to be invaluable in handling any number of the situations the City is so very fond of throwing at us.

[And he's off, pulling the DeLorean out of the workshop… and into the still-crowded streets of the City.]

Well, they are very much real, in my own reality. [Or they will be. Shhh.]

Though I've always been of the belief that science fiction - fiction truly based in science, in the exploration of the imagination, the expansion of our potential, and dreams of furthering human accomplishment - is a powerful medium for the sharing of ideas, of concepts. A basis for development, for testing the true limits of possibility and breaking out of imagined confines we've mistakenly constructed for ourselves.

I agree. But I wouldn't limit it to science fiction. I think all good fiction challenges our preconceptions and helps us to see the perspectives of other people.

Certainly! I suppose I just see the world from a rather biased viewpoint. Science, after all, does occupy by far the greatest portion of my time and attention.

No wonder you and Chekov get along so well.

I suppose that wouldn't be particularly surprising - he's been invaluable both as a friend and as an associate. And you are from his timeline of origin, are you not?

I am. We served together aboard the USS Enterprise. I didn't a chance to really get to know him until we came here, though.

One thing, perhaps, to be thankful for about our abduction. The City truly is full of all manner of opportunities. I could certainly imagine that duty might have a way of interfering in more casual socialization.

Especially when you're serving aboard the Enterprise.

[She says it with a smile, but it's obvious she misses her job.]

From what Pavel's told me, it certainly sounds like quite the vessel. I must admit that I envy you the opportunity, the chance to explore the stars, to broaden the horizons of humanity, to make discoveries with such universal significance.

There's no other job like it. I wouldn't have traded it for anything.

Always a wonderful thing to be able to say. I can only hope to someday have the opportunity to fly among the stars myself.
