Is it normal for so many people to show up so suddenly? I know people come and go a lot, but it feels like someone's just opened a gate somewhere and suddenly everyone's flooding into the City.

Is this a curse, or are we just lucky in having so many new people all at once?

That's a state now. For the record.

Yeah, I heard they admitted Hawaii and Alaska. Not Puerto Rico, though. I thought sure that would be a state before Hawaii was. But I guess they'll stop at 50 now, it's a nice round number. That or keep going to 60, I guess.

How did he even get the nomination, if you don't mind my asking? Personally I think segregation is a damn fool notion that means that government legislation limits what an individual is capable of achieving purely based on the circumstances of his birth, but, well, it's an inarguable fact. I'm surprised a coloured man would ever be able to secure the nomination.

Segregation ended a long time ago. People figured out "separate but equal" isn't actually equal at all. To this day there are still rednecks who think it was a bad idea to get rid of it, but they also fly confederate flags from the back of their pickup trucks.

I don't pay much attention to politics, but I think he was a senator before he got the nomination. So... the normal way a senator gets a presidential nomination, I guess?

It all sounds rather strange to imagine, to be perfectly honest with you. I suppose it means we might actually get some women in Congress one day, too - actually elected, you know, instead of just the stupid widow's succession.

There's women in Congress now, too. No presidents yet, but a woman ran for vice president in the last election.

Oh, now that's wonderful to hear. Good for her! We could use a female vice president - even a female president.

Sarah Palin was all right. If a woman makes president, though, it'll probably be Hillary Clinton. She's pretty popular. Or was, last I checked.

Democratic. Sarah Palin is a Republican, though.

It would be so wonderful if they were running against each other. An entirely female presidential race. Of course, my vote would be for Sarah Palin, I'd never vote for a Democrat.

That'd be something. Maybe someday.

Well, with how much power Roosevelt gave to the federal government, I'd be a fool to ever trust their party.

I guess. It's just that the Democrats back women's rights more than the Republicans. Now, at least. I would have guessed that might appeal to you.

Women's rights I can get behind. But the Democrats have always supported the unions, too.

Yeah, I don't know. I guess it's pointless to speculate now, anyway.

I guess so. I find it all rather fascinating, though.
