Is it normal for so many people to show up so suddenly? I know people come and go a lot, but it feels like someone's just opened a gate somewhere and suddenly everyone's flooding into the City.

Is this a curse, or are we just lucky in having so many new people all at once?

I wouldn't say old fashioned, although vintage has rather a classier ring to it. I don't mind being vintage, even if I'm nowhere near old enough for it yet. I came here from 1952, if that answers your question at all.

1952...?! Wow... Has this place been difficult to adjust to? I can't imagine how much everything was a shock to you.

The technology's still taking a bit of adjusting to. It's not only so futuristic, but so different to how I ever imagined the technology of the future to be. No flying cars, sadly. I think the biggest shocks have been the ones that everyone's faced in coming here, though - these curses and the "deities."

Yeah... Science is one thing... Magic's another. The fact that the deities can so easily influence what we do is... terrifying.

I don't like the idea of anything like that. The idea of having so little control over my actions is truly terrifying.

It also makes the police force's job more complicated.

I haven't seen much of a police force here, so far.

Yeah, they're... kind of short on staff.

Well, no wonder. Everyone could just blame their behaviour on a curse and get off scot-free. It sounds like a very frustrating job.

...Come to think of it, what laws even are there here for them to uphold?

Murder, extreme violence, vandalizing. Thankfully if the person committed the crime on a non-curse day, it's easier to convict them.

Oh, well, that sort of thing I should hope there'd be laws against. I just didn't want there to be anything ridiculous.

Yeah, anything else that may be considered illegal has to be handled carefully.

It was a challenging job when I was here. A lot of people don't take us seriously.

Now why wouldn't they take you seriously?

We don't work for the deities. We're sort of... freelance police.

So you're vigilantes? [There's a little distaste in her tone there.]

Sort of? We only step in on serious matters though.

It's still a very gray area. Anyone could decide what constitutes a serious matter, and in the name of your police force, trample all over the rights of the individual. I agree that some law enforcement is necessary, and that it should be kept to a minimum, but as much as I detest these "deities", at least something official along their lines would give a clear guide of what's appropriate to intervene with. Although you seem like a pretty decent guy, so if they're all like you, I could let it slide.

I understand. We do have some contact with the deities so I guess we're about as "official" as we can get. This was when I was here last though. Not sure if it changed any since I left.

Well, I'll certainly look into it and see what's what. I like to know where I stand with these things.

I doubt you have much to worry about. It isn't often the force is needed.
