[It may be a day of performances on the Network, but at the moment, Rosella (who is thankfully uncursed) has other things on her mind. As such, she's out by the Drowning Pool--or as close as she dares to get, given the ghoulish commotion that was taking place there in recent days.

But of course, one doesn't have to get particularly close to see what's risen from the depths, does one.]

What in the world could they mean to do with all this again...

[And that's a thought that will linger like a stormcloud as she ponders the newly resurrected prison--and all the terrible memories that accompany it--before eventually heading back into the City proper.]

[Cain is still recovering from his bout with the Ghoul Flu--he's thinner and paler than he's been of late (because that is, somehow, actually possible). But there are things to be done and the curse isn't so terrible today that he can't still go and do them (even if he had to endure someone recording a "How To Shop" video in the midst of one of the stores. He was almost in a wretched mood--cold, tired, still weak and weary, put out over the curse (no matter how mild it is)...

...until he saw a familiar red cloak pass by.]

[It's nice to be out in the fresh (albeit cold) air again; she's largely spent the past weeks in hiding, putting the ever-present stockade of supplies in the Warehouse to good use and--for once--keeping herself well out of harm's way, the way so many people have tried to convince her to before. But today it's quiet save for the curse, and she's been in the City long enough that days of silly curses are only slightly more burdensome than ones with no curse at all.

And of course, spotting a familiar face in the crowd is no burden at all.]

[It's been a difficult season--more than a season, really, from October through to now. But, still: a familiar face. And Cain actually smiles.]

[Is she entitled to fuss a bit? He's paler and thinner, that ought to warrant a fair amount of fussing.

Earning a smile is really rather nice, though, too.]

Are you up to your usual errands, then? I've been out awhile now, myself--and as nice as it is just to be out, it's still rather cold enough to want to get back in someplace warm after long.

[Oh, fuss away. He'd probably enjoy it right about now...]

I am, though more than usual. We--I, I suppose, since I think He-Who-Kills looks after himself most of the time, so...I was running low on a few things and, well, now seemed as good a time as any to go and fetch them.

I'm rather glad to be out myself, after the start of the month and everything.

But--if you're cold, you know, I'm sure there's someplace we could stop into for a cup of tea.

I've been doing the same, here and there. The past few weeks were...well. It goes without saying, I suppose.

[Then fussing he shall have. In its preliminary form, she'll be looking him over and pursing her lips a bit at the pallor.]

And it rather looks as though I'm not the only one who's cold, goodness. Let's both get inside; I think hot tea and something to eat would do both of us a great deal of good, really.

Yes, it really does go without saying. Indeed, it's better left unsaid.

[He'll endure it--maybe even enjoy it a little? He's more glad than he's said to see that she looks completely unharmed and well.]

[It's not something she's necessarily proud of, hiding out so thoroughly for so long. But it kept her safe and well, maybe sometimes it really is better to be a little less proud and out of trouble, as opposed to determined to be in the middle of things and making all sorts of trouble for it.]

[It's familiar and practiced, the way she takes his arm--and if she shivers, it's because of the cold, and not because of the way his touch once poisoned her.]

[There's something to be said for creating a fortress for oneself sometimes. Certainly, Cain knows that well.]

Have you? [He knows what that means. He hasn't seen it himself yet, but there's word around...] Anything interesting going on there these days?

I hope so too, but there's really no telling, is there? Especially not after the way it sank in the first place.

In a sense. I wasn't in the prison--that is, I wasn't one of the prisoners, but I knew people who were, and I was trying to help.

I tried to. I remember being down by the shore--but everyone kept telling me to stay home, and not to go, that it was too dangerous and no one wanted to see me at risk of getting hurt too.

Being helpless isn't any better than being trapped in a sinking prison.

Well, perhaps not, but one is certainly a great deal more dangerous than the other.

He doesn't say anything, though. He knows she'll see him but it doesn't bother him at all.]

[It's hardly unusual to run into other people out here, but they don't often move so silently, or stay so reserved.]

[He considers not answering her, for a moment, but finally he sighs and clears his throat]

It's dangerous out here, you know.

It's rather a bit dangerous most everywhere lately, isn't it? And I hadn't meant to stay long, anyway. I only wanted a look out over the water.

[Gosh that sounds almost exactly like what a werewolf would say.]

That building out there, the prison. It was sunk a long time ago, and now they've brought it back.

It's a prison? For people who live here?

That's right. A very long time ago, there was someone with the power to put people in there--rather like a sheriff, except that the people in the City would elect him every so often. Now there's simply the police, and they haven't had use of it since the Deities sank it.
