Well, for me, that wasn't such a bad weekend. I kinda enjoyed most of it. Back to being a flying freak, now. But it's not so bad, either. I kinda missed flying. [He's still smiling, but he probably doesn't look AS cheerful as he did over the weekend.]

Anyone wanna take off to the skies with me?

Hey, Kira, Alexiel, I might have seriously pissed off Karl. And he might be coming after Sara because of it. If we could, somehow, take shifts looking out for her, I'd appreciate your help. I mean, it's my fuck up, and I'll understand if you think I should take care of it myself, but I already tried what I could. Everything just backfired, really bad.

There's this...he's kinda like a vampire, but technically he's not one. His name is Karl, and I kinda pissed him off. Could you lay low for a couple of days? Just until Charlie's wedding? And be very careful. Don't even talk to this guy. Normally I'd say it's okay since I do, but he's really pissed off. And he's threatening to come after you.

Saya, you doing okay? [He pronounces everything slow and carefully.] Just in case you don't get this, I'll let Charlie know to talk to you. But I wanted to ask you personally if I could go over and see you. We'll talk more then. Might be easier.

[Finally, a smile from him. A little one, but she'll take it.]

[Of course his change of subject has her tensing, her back going rigid, her hand yanked away from his.] What?

Karl.... [But he never exactly said they NEEDED it. The way he spoke, it might have been a necessity.] Karl took blood from me.

Do you need it?

[He looks down at her hand, gone from his, a little sadly.]

[Her eyes dart wildly from Setsuna to her hands, now clenched in her lap.]

No... [Just a whisper, impossible to tell if she's declining his offer or outright denying what she's hearing.]

[She finally looks back up at Setsuna, eyes wide and frightened by more than what's going on in the present. Trembling, like she was when faced with Karl.]

[Now he's wide eyed and intent on her. He even moves back a little. Frightened.]

It's okay. I just...if you needed it, I didn't want you to end up badly.

[Very softly.] I'm sorry.

[Whether its some latent memory of hers, or Setsuna moving away from her or his whispered apology, Saya's eyes well with tears and she just lets them fall.]

[She doesn't want to be like Karl -- is that what she is? Does Setsuna think she is?] Is... Saya bad?

Wha? No!

[He looks shocked at that, and reaches forward - not thinking - to hug her.] Saya's not bad. Saya's good.

[It's a day for crying on one another's shoulders, only Saya's a bit less restrained about it, letting her tears fall freely. What she saw in the water the other day, her reflection, the way it scared her -- and now Setsuna saying she's like Karl -- what did all this mean?]

I... sorry. [She's imitating what Setsuna said a moment ago, but it's no less sincere. She doesn't want to frighten Setsuna or make him sadder. He's been kind to her.]

[He shakes his head to her apology, and feels like a complete jerk. He's just fucking up with everyone lately. If he had known how she'd take it, he wouldn't have mentioned it.]

No. No sorries. Saya didn't do anything wrong. There's no need to be sorry.

[His reassurance lets her finally return his embrace, holding him as closely as he'll let her.]

Setsuna staying? [Maybe he'd want to leave now, instead...]

Of course I'm staying. Why wouldn't I? [No, no chance in that happening anytime soon. He has little to go back home too, right now. Other than Kira.... He needs time, first.]

[She pulls back enough to show him that she's smiling as her tears dry. In the scheme of her life she barely knows Setsuna, but right now she's not aware of that, and he's one of the few people who she trusts. One of the most important people to her.] Then, Saya okay. [She had been a little better with pronouns, but she's flustered just now.]

[She wipes a tear from her chin and examines her wet fingertips.] Setsuna, okay too?

[Like she did for him, absently, Setsuna reaches out to wipe away what tears remain. He barely knows her, as well, but somehow he can't help be drawn to her, or care for her. He falls into that easily, easily attached and concerned for others.]

Yeah, I'm okay. We'll be okay.

I'll be at the wedding, and after, I'll crash here with you and Arthur for a couple weeks.

[She leans her cheek into his touch, then brings both of her hands up to hold his. The gesture reminded her of when he came to the door, how he looked -- how that made her chest hurt. She doesn't know if she has the words for what she wants to say, but she has to try.]

Setsuna help me. Saya not be okay without Setsuna.

So -- Saya help Setsuna? Please?

[He just keeps his hands there, hold soft. His expression, though, is slightly confused, his eyes wide. It's a weighted thing, being told someone wouldn't be okay without you. And he mostly certainly can't deny her want to help him after saying it, either.]

How...how do you want to help, Saya?

[She deflates, looking down at her lap. She doesn't know how to help unless someone shows her. So maybe she can't.] Don't know.

[She is helping, by just giving him another focus point, taking his mind off of it. But he doesn't realize he should tell her that.] That's okay.

Do you actually want to listen to me whine about it?

[She glances at him, a spark of hope in her eyes. Later she'll recognize this winsome look as manipulative and be ashamed of it, but right now she's too guileless to consider it.]

Yes, Saya listen. If... that help?

[And yet Setsuna thinks she's the most innocent person he's ever met, aside from one of the grigori in Heaven.]

Alright.... Don't know why you'd want to. [He doesn't normally do this, either. He usually gets distracted by Kira and comforted and that's the end of it. But, if Saya really wants to help.]

Remember how I told you the other day about love? That I love someone? Well, she told me she doesn't love me back, today. No love.

[The feeling he's describing is complicated, intricate, but Saya somehow knows just what he means. How she knows... she can't quite capture it, a reflection of a reflection, but she knows what that feeling is. It brings tears to her eyes that are only half for Setsuna's sake.]

Sorry. [She whispers the word, her eyes averted downward so she can reach for his hand again and squeeze it.]

[With her looking downcast, Setsuna leans down to see her properly. When she takes his hand, though, he squeezes hers in return.]

Not used to seeing people so upset 'cause of my upsets. You okay?

[She glances, up blinking quickly as if she were interrupted from a train of thought.]

Is that wrong?

[She blushes a little, embarrassed that she would have a reaction that wasn't right.] I want Setsuna be happy, since you make Saya happy. When sad, Saya sad too.

Wha? No! It's not wrong....

[But then he's speechless. The idea of his moods affecting another person so strongly leaves him slightly guilt-ridden, for a moment. Then he realizes, oddly, he's very touched. More than anything, he wants to find a way to be happy again, if only to share that.]

[A small smile grows.]

I make you happy, huh?

[Relief floods over her, that she hasn't done something he disapproves of. Her smile blooms, widening to match his.]

Of course Setsuna makes me happy! You help me, protect me even when it hurt. [Her memory of Setsuna saying he was friends with Karl, the tears in his eyes, is so painfully vivid. Her expression shifts, something like sheepish,] And Saya can't do anything to repay.

[His eyes widen, as he reaches to put both of his hands over her one.]

No, you don't need to repay me. Friends don't keep score. I did those things because I wanted to. [A very gentle smile.]

And...you make me happy, too.

[With their hands occupied she can't throw her arms around him as she considers doing, so Saya leans forward onto Setsuna's shoulder. of course she's delighted that she can do something for him, but there's a tinge of fear... fear that it can't last.]

I hope Setsuna is always happy.
