[Charlie has a broom in her hand and she is sweeping the floor of her apartment building, frowning. The device is at an odd angle on the kitchen counter, probably haphazardly put there and she's unaware it's recording.] Jesus, it's everywhere.

[Whatever she's just swept up is swept into a dustpan, Charlie crouching and disappearing from view to do so. When she's up again, she notices the device recording and she shows the dustpan full of sand.] Really? It was in my bed this morning. And my shoes.

[A sigh, a small shake of her head and she looks at the floor again. Something makes her smile and she picks the device up, pointing it at her cats. They're playing with the sand, batting it around and rolling in it, as little as there is.] At least someone in this apartment is having fun with it.

I sleep in dirt to begin with, and if anything in my fridge manages to go bad before I drink it I'll actually be surprised. The only thing I really care about on that front's the microwave anyway, and it's been doing damn good so far.

[The scenery around him changes as he starts heading across the room to check it again -- just to be sure -- except he kind of...stops for a moment before changing his path. Floor, what are you doing, why do you have a crack.]

Most people name their cats things like "Charcoal" or "Pete". Just putting that out there.

Petrichor smelled like rain when I brought him home. And Hypnos sleeps all the time.

[That gets a small 'heh' of amusement. And a half-smile. And then she shrugs.] I was just curious.

Two cats? Seriously?

Yep. Hypnos followed me home. I just recently got the second one. Pets help with the ticking.

Of course they do. Because that makes sense.

What, is it like that whole "pets in nursing homes improve morale" thing? 'Cause if that's the case a mechanical seal will do the same job.
