Here we go again.
[Because Charlie's developed a habit of not showing her face when she's stressed and this kind of weekend is stressful, Charlie's using audio today and she could filter it but that requires effort and she'd just flat out rather not expend more than she has to. This is really just the long way of saying 'charlie hates these weekends so much.']
Hey, Toph? If I said this weekend would be better spent Bending in the park instead of being at work, what would you say?
[There's a bit of silence, a muttered 'jesus' and the audio shuts off.]
[Charlie will later be found in the park, well away from the crowd. She's people watching. She has Phantom and Petrichor with her and they're chasing the occasional miniature ball of fire that she throws with a quick flick of her wrist. It's harmless, she's controlling everything it does, not letting it near anyone or anything and it vanishes within seconds but the animals seem to love it.
And she's dressed for firebending practice. Figure fitting, maroon colored tank top and shorts. Her sandals are off and tucked under the bench and her backpack has several bottles of water stuffed inside.
She really was serious about skiving off work to let off some steam.
After bending practice, Charlie will be found at home on the roof, tending to the garden and trying so very hard to just ignore everything.]
[ooc: have at her, folks.]

She's on her way home from Bending practice. Tired. Kinda sweaty but other than that? She's feeling damn good about herself.
Until she spots Ed near the apartment building. Then the world kind of freezes and Charlie stops walking.
Maybe he won't recognize her and will try to eat her again?]
no subject
Ha.
Nope, instead he's stalking over, all bent on space invasion like there's absolutely no reason he shouldn't.]
Hey.
[Awkwarddddd.]
no subject
Hi. You've been gone for quite some time.
[Awkward doesn't begin to cover it.]
no subject
He frowns, but leaves the space alone.]
...sorry, I didn't mean to. Not that it means shit, but.
[Thinking.]
How long?
no subject
[That's not why she stepped back at all. It's just a cover. For now. She knows that this conversation could end horribly. Of all the conversations she thought she'd ever have, this wasn't one of them.]
Two months. How long has it been for you?
no subject
[He tilts his head questioningly.]
Did you seriously think I was gonna fucking eat you?
[Smiiiirk.]
no subject
[At his question, she huffs with impatience and annoyance.] Well, I don't know how the City works. I just know it's having a grand old time fucking with me today. I mean, a lot can change in a couple months.
[A pause and when she speaks again, her tone is tinged with annoyance and something close to hurt.] I saw my dad today, Ed.
no subject
No shit. How'd that go? [A pause.] You alright?
no subject
[She runs her fingers through her hair, runs her tongue over her teeth. All the typical signs of an agitated Charlie.] He knew who I was. Last time he saw me, he was bleeding out on a bale of hay and ten year old me'd just set fire to his murderer. And he still knew who I was.
[There's another pause, Charlie picking at her nails nervously.] You didn't say how long it's been since you left.
no subject
[But he's more sincere than the cavalier tone implies. Parents are a tricky issue around him, but he gets that they care. And that they might have magical powers when it comes to their kids.]
Not as long as it's been for you. Just leave it at that, alright? Geez.
[Because it's only been a week. Maybe two; stupid time gap, and he knows things are DIFFERENT somehow but he's hesitant to poke at exactly how much.]
So. How've you been otherwise?
no subject
[She couldn't even begin to count how many times she came home and tried to die on the floor because of Bending practice. Texted Ed to not come over because everything hurt and she couldn't move so spending time together was idiotic, only to have him come over anyway. And while the timing of her next comment is off, it's better said now than him finding out on his own. Even if she knows this will end horribly.]
I couldn't let you near me a few minutes ago because I know you and I know that look on your face really well. That can't happen now because it would be unfair to the guy I'm dating now.
[....yep, Charlie's suddenly wishing she could set herself on fire.]
And it's not fair to you for me to not say anything.
