Now this is remarkable. I've been made to understand that this is a regular event around here, this sudden seemingly free influx of unexpected visitors. One with a limited timespan as well, from my understanding. Which means it is vital to make the most of this research opportunity while it's presented itself.

Certainly somewhere there must be some indication as to the manner of the connection between this dimension and others - more apparent now than typically - and how it has been possible for those of us whose stays here are somewhat less transitory to find ourselves achieving transdimensional passage to begin with...

[And his voice trails off as he gets distracted by planning his research. The connection goes quiet for a few moments before it cuts off.]

Makes sense.

Magic exists where I'm from, so it's the most logical explanation for these things to me.

Does it? If you don't mind sharing, what sort of phenomena are attributed to magic in your particular reality? I would be fascinated to learn more about the varying extent of possibility in alternate dimensions.

Err, a lot of things? There are magical creatures and things that can only be done with magic... And I guess most of those concern things that have to do with the dead. It's a little difficult to be specific, though.

With the dead? Really?

[That was almost a great scott moment. Almost.]

If only it were possible to cross into others' native worlds... the opportunity to witness these phenomena in person would be invaluable. Of course, crossing over too many dimensional barriers could cause irreversible damage to the space-time continuum that could potentially result in the destabilizing and eventual destruction of all timelines...

[Some of those words he has no real idea what they're supposed to mean exactly, but he just nods along a little absently. He could... show the guy, but how many should he let know...

But this does seem like someone he could trust and one person already knows, apparently, so... maybe it's fine. He's not going to say it over this thing, though. It's a weird thing, he's not going to trust it with things. Even though he has technically already given things away in... excitement, oops.]

I could... tell you what I know, because I have some experience with it. If you'd like. But maybe not over this? I find it weird to talk like this; we don't really have these kind of things.

Really? I would be fascinated to see any demonstration you'd be willing to provide.

[Clearly, visibly thrilled.]

And yes, of course - wherever you like would be perfectly fine! I can certainly understand a bit of discomfort with unfamiliar technology; even my native time period is not quite up to the point of advancement that this one seems to be.

[That smile is very, very contagious.]

I'm not so familiar with the City but if you know some place where there aren't any people, I'd like that.

Ah! Well, I have claimed an unoccupied building for my purposes, though I confess it's not quite orderly at this point. And certainly a bit crammed, with my... equipment. If you'd prefer a more open space, there is a forest beyond the limits of the city proper.

I think the forest might be best.

[Not that he thinks he doesn't have enough control over his magic to break something by accident or... something like that, an open space is probably simply better.]

The forest it is, then!

I'd be happy to meet you and show you the way, of course, if you can describe your present location!

[He might also be... trying to peer very closely at the screen to see if he can figure out where you are.]

[Yeah, that sounds like a good idea.]

Ah. The fountain.

Excellent! Hold your position and I'll be there in just a few minutes.

[And the feed cuts right off.]

[Oh!

Alright then.

He'll just... step around the fountain and poke a little at it, then. He's really wondering how wise this is, and how much of a disapproving look Gaius would give him... But, surely, it'll be fine.

Surely.]

[He's lucky that the man on his way to meet him is definitely among the least threatening figures in the City. If he ever did wind up hurting anyone, it would probably be because he made a minor miscalculation in an experiment and something exploded.

Luckily, he doesn't have anything potentially explosive with him when he arrives in the crowded square and looks around the fountain.]

Ah! There you are!

[And he extends a hand, because it has only occurred to him on his way over that he actually hadn't introduced himself. He has improved over the years, but social niceties will never be his strong suit.]

Doctor Emmett Brown.

[Indeed.

Merlin whips around as soon as he hears that voice, and smiles as he takes the hand. All good, all good.]

Merlin.

[Doc's big smile is back as he shakes that hand.]

Merlin?

[He dismisses the perceived significance of the name for the moment - it's hard to with the role magic is playing, but legends in his own reality don't necessarily carry over for others. It's in the back of his mind, though.]

Well, it's a pleasure! I do truly appreciate your willingness to demonstrate your abilities.

It's nothing, just... keep it between the two of us?

[He fidgets, a little, with his neckerchief and his smile falls a little. As much as he enjoys showing magic, he's really beginning to wonder if he's being way too lax about it.]

Oh yes, of course, certainly!

[And he gestures grandly, as he turns to walk down one of the streets.]

The forest is this way. I must warn you, I've been told it can be extremely dangerous to venture too far in, but the crowds should dissipate well before the point where any such peril would become likely.

It should be fine.

[Even if something actually did come at them, he could probably deal with it. Give them time, at the very least.]
