Before you ask, as someone always does: I would have announced auditions this weekend, for the play, but I think under the circumstances it might be better to hold off until things are back to normal. I love when everyone comes to visit, but it does make it difficult to get work done! And I don't know that the announcement would be as widely noticed today.

Besides, I'm not sure I could concentrate; I'd much rather just visit with everyone.

Do you... hallucinate often?

We are! We have been for some time, though I think between all the revisions, and talking about direction and everything, it's understandable that it would take longer to stage something written for the City than something that already existed.

It's a regular occurrence for me, yes.

Well obviously workshopping a new play is always going to take a little longer. Or several months longer, depending on the temperament of the playwright.

It's his first one so I think it's going very well. And I think it will be well-received-- as far as I know it's the first time anyone's written a play about this place.

Thank you for the concern, but it's quite alright. Most people I work with have got used to it by now.

And which place is this exactly?

Oh, well. Like I said, it's called the City; it doesn't have another name. Everyone who lives here now came from another world; there's no way to get out, though from time to time people come home. It's a little difficult to explain.

My name is Neil.

Neil. Right. Excellent. So tell me some more about this play, Neil.

Well, the working title is Like Clockwork-- Todd's always threatening to change it but we haven't thought of anything better. It's about people from different worlds who live in the City. It's a bit like a Shakespearean comedy, except, more modern. By the City's standards, I mean.

Ah, so chock full of mistaken identity, transvestism, and culminating in a marriage?

Not quite that Shakespearean, but you're not far off. Most of the confusion comes from things that only happen in the City, really.

And what sort of things are those?

Well, we call them curses-- this is one, everyone showing up from other worlds, but all sorts of different things can happen because of them. Sometimes people turn into animals, or believe they're different people, or switch bodies with one another, or... well, all sorts of different things.

This may be a whole new level of crazy even I've never experienced.

We don't have anyone with much directing experience here-- or, really, that much acting experience-- but of course the more we do the better we'll all be.
