[ Functioning. It applies to both his own body, and the communications device, but sadly not his powers. He'd worn himself out trying to zap himself back out of this miserable existence, and now Q was suffering--suffering from a bruised ego, a sore head, and - perhaps most unfairly - a grazed knee. Mortal, but not not Q. Trapped, but not wholly aware how. And the ticking of the clock is making his headache worse. A most disagreeable state of affairs. And now here's his face, at first much too close to the camera, and then withdrawn to a more reasonable distance, revealing Voyager era command red, and four pips at his collar. Not for a moment does his scowl subside. ]

Oh, I'm sure you think you're very clever. Do you have any idea who I am? You'd be well advised to send me back where I came from immediately. Otherwise--well, I can't be held responsible for what might happen. [ Not from him. Oh, no. But the Continuum might have something to say about it. Or his family. At least he hadn't actually fallen into the fountain. He'd come close, but with at least some small part of his once magnificent power available, he'd saved himself the splash at the last second. He leans back, inspects the fingernails of his left hand disinterestedly. ]

Well? Hurry up. I haven't got all day. I'm getting bored.

[ Mischievous transforms to stone in a moment. ] You didn't answer my question, I can't imagine why you think I mean to answer yours. Didn't they teach you Captains any manners in the 23rd century?

Unfortunate for you, because you die in a tragic hunting accident, torn to pieces by a rampant Sehlat in the height of mating season.

If you're going to lie to me, do at least try a little harder.

You could at least be a little more imaginative if you're going to have me die for a second time. Maybe throw in a dozen eagles or Spock devouring me whole, that'd be impressive.

[ The headache, the grazed knee, the squelchy sounds in his stomach--all great indicators of the truth, but nobody else needs to know that. ]

[ He shrugs, nodding as he rubs the back of his head nonchalantly. ]

Yeah, I did.

And this death of yours--how exactly did that happen?

[ Obviously Kirk is dead, he doesn't need to lie about it. But not that young. ]

Does it matter? I'm not the Kirk from your dimension.

Don't answer him. He's just trying to goad you. It's best to deny him the satisfaction of a response.

He's irritating but he's still talking.

You met— [ there's a dozen ways that could've went, both good and bad. likely more the later than the former, judging by everything she's come to know about this kirk during her time here. (funny, how she knows more about this one than the one from her own timeline, all things considered.) ]

I see. I imagine I'll be having to set more than a few records straight. [ the kirk from her timeline, whatever comes out of q's mouth— she can already feel the headache brewing. ] My schedule's clear, whenever you've got the time.

[ Amusement, then, it dances behind his eyes, and Q leans in a little closer. ]

[ Why does he get the feeling he's dancing with the devil here. ]

[ That isn't Kirk's fate, but Spock's. In the...what was the human word for that? Prime universe, at least. But there were other universes; parallels, mirrors, a million what ifs. The kind that blinked out of existence when a single thing was changed, and others that did not.

Q steeples his hands together. Mischief flickers to life in his expression. She's interfering. Goading him, indeed. Well two can play at that game. ]

What is it that Kathy has been keeping from you, Jimmeny?

I have no idea what you're talking about and frankly, I don't want to.

[ Knowing his future would be ... morbidly fascinating, but it might drive him nuts. Paranoid. Besides, he isn't Prime!Kirk — the past weekend proved that well enough. ]
