[ You might stumble across Ginny in the corridors, at the library looking for books to help study for her upcoming NEWT examinations, coming off the pitch after practice, sitting in the courtyard sketching out Quidditch plays, or even down in Hogsmeade on Saturday if you're so inclined! Join her for a butterbeer?

On Sunday, LET THE BLOODBATH BEGIN. Or whatever. Come find her! ]

[ chakotay is that one random person who doesn't seem to be enjoying himself in hogsmeade. he's sitting at a table in the three broomsticks, trying desperately to think of what on earth is going wrong with his latest ideas. he's that one guy the ministry isn't fond of, but they can't quite figure out what to do with him. dark arts wielder? no, not really. but he's definitely walked a fine line since he was appointed an international liaison.

he doesn't really look too happy, either. in fact, he's cradling his butterbeer like it's the most important thing in his life right now. something is very clearly bothering him.

bother him more? ]

[It's unusual for Ginny Weasley to go to Hogsmeade alone—either she's with friends or on a date but for now, she's just ducking in to get a butterbeer and maybe she'll meet up with someone later. They're not here yet, though, and as she places an order at the bar, she spots Chakotay. She recognises him, vaguely, perhaps from visiting the Ministry to see her father or stories from her father.

She comes over to him, ducking her head a bit to make eye contact.]

Hullo. Mister... Chakotay, right?

[ he looks up at the sound of her voice, vaguely recognizing her, though that might be due to the trademark weasley hair. ]

Yes. You're... Miss Weasley, aren't you?

[ since she has brothers, he can say that. ]

Enjoying your Hogsmeade weekend?

Yeah, that's right. I wasn't sure you'd remember, but you know Dad, don't you?

[She nods at his question, smiling.]

I am. It's nice to have a bit of a break before the match tomorrow, but I'm stalking through the village to make sure my team doesn't get into too much trouble before then. What brings you here?

We've met a few times. [ oddly enough, arthur weasley is one of few people he actually gets along with in the ministry, though he's pretty sure not even arthur likes some of his more radical ideas. like spell-trapping some of their borders against giants. ]

Can't have a team in trouble before a big game. [ oh he remembers what it was like back in his school days. ]

Just thinking, trying to find the answers to all of life's mysteries. [ okay so that's clearly him teasing but shush. ]

[She shoots him an amused look then slides into the empty seat across from him since it seems like she might linger for a bit while waiting for her drink.]

Well, looks like those questions might need something a little stronger than butterbeer. You doing alright? How's the Ministry these days?

[ he's slightly surprised when she does -- most people at all affiliated with the ministry don't like giving him the time of day, let alone actually spending that time with him -- but he doesn't ask her to leave. ]

It was the safer choice. [ but he had been considering firewhiskey. ] The Ministry's cold. That time of year. [ that time of year when the offices chill and people really stop talking to him and damned if he isn't giving the idea of going on strike and forming a rebel faction some serious thought. he doesn't like where the ministry's going these days and they don't like him. it's a huge conflict of interests, but he can't say that. ]

As far as I'm aware, the Ministry's fine. How are things at Hogwarts?

I'm graduating soon, so things are... mad. I'm hoping a few scouts'll be at the game tomorrow, I've got to make it to the Harpies.

[Nothing less will do!

But here's the thing with being a Weasley, with being the daughter of the most generous, accepting parents in the wizarding world—regardless of what Chakotay has done, of what the rest of the Ministry feels about him, he is simply a person. Radical, perhaps. But isn't she, too? Maybe this version of her world doesn't carry what she's done, no DA and no war (some limbo?) but that doesn't diminish who she is.]

You should hang round and watch it. Take your mind off work.

I'm sure you will. I've heard you're a natural on a broomstick.

[ he gives her a genuine smile at that, knowing well that some scouts will turn up sooner or later to one of these quidditch matches. ]

If there's enough room in the stands, I might. Or I'll watch from the ground. Either way... I'll be there.

Here's to hoping they've heard, too.

[She looks up as her butterbeer arrives, flashing a grateful smile at the departing barmaid then wraps her hands around the warm tankard, looking back to Chakotay.]

There's always room on the stands. No use watching Quidditch from the ground, I might have to pull some dives just so you can get a bit of action.

You don't have to worry about me. I've watched Quidditch matches from worse places than the ground.

[ like inside or not at all. he's a little curious why she's still here, but won't ask just yet. he kinda feels like the awkward outsider talking to the popular girl. ]

[What? He works in the Ministry and he seemed like he could use some company.]

Are you alright?

[ he's just grown used to not being liked. it's weird. just excuse him a moment while he takes a swig of butterbeer. ]

The Ministry isn't exactly happy with me right now. I've got a lot of ideas they don't agree with. [ it makes business relations difficult. ]

The Ministry's never happy with anyone.

[Shooting him a look over the edge of her tankard as she takes a sip.]

There's always favouritism in there.

[ he gives her a slightly calculating look in return. ]

I guess you would know that, wouldn't you? [ since she's the daughter of arthur weasley and all. ] I guess there are days I wish that favoritism would go the other way.

[Of course she knows, her father's been long overdue for a promotion and he's never gotten it, most likely because of the views they share as a family. The Ministry never plays with politics.]

A lot of people deserve better and they're not getting it. Even if my family wasn't working at the Ministry, I'd know that, it's so obvious. And the Ministry's more involved at the school than most people would expect, too, with the board of directors and all... [Softer, as to not be overheard,] Too much power's never a good thing.

[ chakotay is really starting to hate politics. thanks, ministry. but he chooses to ignore the implications of what they’re discussing, lowering his voice to a conspiratorial tone. ]

What do you suggest we do about it, stage a coup?

[ aha aha aha he is going to hate this when he wakes back up. this is waaaay too close to his life as a maquis. ]

[She gives an alarmingly nonchalant shrug at that, sipping at her butterbeer and glancing around the room as she murmurs back,]

It'll happen eventually. You can't keep people unhappy for very long without consequences.

[ he sips at his butterbeer, murmuring over the rim: ] I'll be sure to let you know if something happens.

[ whether or not he's serious is up in the air at the moment. ]

Me?

[So sweetly, eyes sparking.]

I'm just a student.

[ at that, he just smiles, lifts his mug in a mock toast, and takes a sip. ]

[As does she, letting the subject drop because anything more might be heard as something more threatening than just a joke. And with her as the daughter and sister to Ministry officials, at that. Doesn't mean she has to play nice all the time.]
