[And as the video comes up, here's Rosella, lightly dusted with sand and looking a bit sunburned as instant proof of her current location in the Desert City. She does, however, have her hair braided sensibly back, her sleeves rolled down, and a makeshift scarf wrapped around her neck and head to shade them from the sun, and in the hand not holding the Network device, it looks as though she's holding...a hand mirror?

The particularly eagle-eyed might notice that there seems to be a statue of some variety in the background of the shot, too--about a person's height and shape.]

It'd be a very good idea, I think, for anyone traveling in the desert to keep something that reflects on hand with them--a mirror, or a polished shield, or something of the like. And if you should think you see something in the distance, a figure of some sort walking your way...even if you're sure it's only a mirage, be certain to look away, and point the mirror at it, first.

[Her slightly chapped lips narrow into a thin line.]

It seems that on top of everything else, there are medusas out here. They're not quite so fearsome as some of the other monsters marauding about, really, but they're much more dangerous than one might think, especially if one underestimates them. So it's really only sensible to be careful.

[She sighs, rubbing her face with her sleeve.]

I do hope everyone is all right, though?


[OOC: Okay, so school sort of ate me alive this past week and I'm still a little behind on things, but here is a Rosella in the Desert City, apparently having a random encounter with the traditional King's Quest desert monster: a medusa. Team Sociopath, I'm assuming she's in your general vicinity at the moment? Or if you want to play it differently, ping me and I'll roll with pretty much anything. Like rampaging sand boars and the luaus that result from them. o/]

Well, I should certainly hope you wouldn't want to for fun. It's not a very pleasant place for a vacation by any means.

No, not in the least--I wasn't even especially fond of it before I heard that Medusa was apparently stalking the place.

I suppose they aren't normally about in deserts in London, then? They're--well, not commonplace, exactly, but the desert does tend to be the sort of place where one might run across one, so it's the sort of thing one rather learns to watch out for.

Still, Rosella, it sounds as though you know your way about a desert. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.

[Tra la la, she's shaking her device to see if it'll help the reception any.]

Neil, I couldn't hear what you said at first, but yes, I'm fine. I'm just fine.

Rosella! You're okay! ...And well-prepared. Did you know you'd end up in a desert?

Oh, Penny, it's so good to hear from you! Yes, I'm fine, and no, I'm afraid I wasn't expecting to end up in a desert at all! But, well, it does help to be prepared, and I've been finding ways to manage, just the same.

I'd say you're managing--look at you, defeating monsters!

Did you hear about the deities' fort? It's supposed to be safe so most everyone's heading there, I think, I'm not too sure if their "safe" is the same thing as my "safe."

Oh, the medusa. Yes, they're awful, but at least they don't usually take a fight, the way that some monsters do. A glimpse of their own reflection is usually enough to settle it quickly.

Yes, we're heading for the fort ourselves. Are you there already, or somewhere out here in the desert?

[It's pretty ugly, snakes for hair and a grotesque expression on the stone face. At least it's safe to look at now, though; a few minutes ago it wouldn't have been.]

It's awful, isn't it? I hope you've never had the misfortune of encountering one before--they're rather unpleasant, medusas.

Really? That seems a rather odd thing to have one of, especially if you don't have medusas around yourself. Was he a warrior of some sort?

[Carla would love that luau... she's starving... She prods the statue curiously, but is mostly disappointed that it can't be eaten.]

[Medusas probably taste gross, anyway. All bitter and snake venom-y.]

I suppose I oughtn't be surprised that there are medusas out here, too, on top of everything else, but it does make things a bit more tedious for traveling.

[What? She's completely unfazed. She freezes monsters into stone like it's her adventuring job.]

A pair of reflective glasses would do the job nicely.

Oh, I hadn't thought of that! I wonder if that would really do? If the person wearing them could see through them, but the medusa saw herself at the same time...though I suppose one could always just close one's eyes, really, and that'd manage it.

But yes, anything that reflects ought to do. Just so long as she sees herself before you set eyes on her.
