[ It's obvious Clary doesn't mean for the video to be filming. She's in a bar somewhere, a colourful cocktail umbrella tucked into the mane of her red hair and a familiar chain around her throat catching the light. She's lent over the bartop, her device on the surface beside her. The stool next to her is empty but there's a bag that Clary's guarding that isn't hers. She's obviously not out drinking alone.

The bartender passes over the two glasses, bright lurid liquids that leave condensation on the glass. Clary picks her own up and sips at it, her nose wrinkling slightly before she puts it back down and glances over the too crowded floor. It's not usually her scene but hey - nobody's asked her age here.

Of course, not being her scene she reaches for the device, realises it's recording. Clary drops it immediately, covers the camera with a beer mat. A moment passes and she's lifting it up again, guilty and very clearly a little tipsy. ] Oops?

[Oh those familar eyes are filled with amusement and only a little concern.]

It is a little too late to be hiding the alcohol Clary.

[ She gives a nervous burst of laughter, her elbow against the bartop as she tucks a strand of hair behind her ear. ] I wasn't hiding it on purpose! Well, okay, I was. But I didn't mean to show the network either so really it's not my fault.

This is the second accidental video I've seen from you in a short space of time.

[And one quick bathroom break later, Mae comes back to her seat, hanging the bag under the protuding edge of the bar's counter, reaching for her drink with a happy sigh.]

Ahhh, the perks of a very loose drinking age restriction in this place.

[Honestly, Mae, you should know better. Fuck, you're legal now and almost slowly inching towards twenty. But no, no, clearly no explosion or earthquakes can stand in the way of girls on a 'everything sucks, let's go out tonight' adventure.]

I think I accidentally drunk dialed the entire City.

[ But who could be angry at the literal embodiment of all things angelic? Especially when she's adorably confused and has an umbrella in her hair. ]

Ah. [She takes a slow sip from her glass, before picking the straw umbrella from it, cleaning it with a tissue, and leaning over to place it neatly in some other part of Clary's hair (the culprit!!!)]

But you looked fine doing it.

[ She laughs, a quiet helpless sound. ] I looked like an umbrella stand for fairies.

[ She's met the fae and they weren't the kindest but Clary's not thinking about that right now. She's just licking sugar from her thumb and then taking a sip of her drink. ] I like this one the best.

It's quite delicious. [She leans her head against her palm, elbow on the counter.] You know, you're supposed to take it slow and savour them. We drink cocktails for fun, Clary, and because we can. They're fun drinks.

You went out on the town and didn't think to ask me along? [ He feigns hurt, which they both know is what it is, and doesn't find it as difficult as he thought to act the same way as he usually does with her under the circumstances. ] I at least hope you're drinking some on my behalf.

Jace. [ For a minute her voice is just the soft, same caress of affection. But it isn't fair, on either of them. Maybe Clary's always worn her heart on her sleeve or maybe it's the alcohol, but her smile takes a second to grow. ]

You wouldn't like what I'm drinking. Look, it's pink. [ An inside joke that makes her chest hurt. ]

[ It doesn't show, or at least he hopes it doesn't, but he does notice, and it makes something hurt deep down inside that he tries to shove down for both of their sakes. Nothing's changed, not for him, and he still intends to protect her and keep her safe if she needs it, help her find some kind of footing in their world where he can. But he knows she needs to find herself first - that they both do - before they can really make anything work.

Everything aside, it's easy to laugh, to scrunch his nose up at the drink in question. ] You're right, I wouldn't. I'm still a man, and men still don't drink pink drinks.

[ Video ]

Men are missing out.

[ She lets her tone go lofty and imperious before she ruins it all by grinning. ] I mean, there are brown drinks. But they're not as fun.

[punchedhitler]

[He's here to pick up a beer for Bucky when he spots her, and walks over to sit next to her]

Aren't you a little young?

[cupio]

[ Clary manages to look incredibly guilty almost immediately. Her eyes a little wide and the umbrella drooping in her hair. ]

Um, no?

[punchedhitler]

What's the matter, little lady?

[He's trying to channel Bucky but it's just coming off as concerned Steve.]

[cupio]

Nothing!

[ By that point the bartender has placed another drink in front of her. ] My boyfriend and I are on a break. [ Shrugging. ] It sounded like a good idea.

So are you merry by now or moping? You're one or the other.

[ She's clearly been merry and moping but now she's somewhere on the positive side. ]
