[ well. this is embarrassing. asami can't say for sure how long it's been since she's last seen your ugly mug, polychromatic, but she definitely recognizes it upon sight... though it had taken her a few moments to remember that she was supposed to remember you at all.

seems almost poetic that she'd turn up at the exact same place she had the first time around. heck, she'll even give the fixed-up carousel a wistful pat along one of its weird plastic animals' snouts... though don't mistake the oddly sentimental gesture for happiness or relief, or anything silly like that. she still isn't all that happy to be here oops.

after a while, she'll fish out that strange phone gadget she'd been taking the time to acquaint herself with the last time, and quickly scan through the contacts. there's an odd twist to her lips when she sees a few familiar faces... and notices a few missing.

eventually, she turns on the video option. ]

So! Long time no see. [ a pause. ] I think.

[ and because she still hadn't been able to figure out that tricky filtering thing: ] Korra, I hope you still have a room available... I don't think this place is ready to let go of me yet.

[He actually doesn't recognize it at first now that it's in-tact. When he does, he acknowledges her location with a tired breath, and he finishes his food in one bite. He gathers the napkin in his lap to clean his hand before tossing it in a nearby waste bin.]

It's been better. I'll tell you later. [He'd rather not share the story of getting his ass kicked on camera.] Stay there, I'll come meet you.

[He hangs up.]

[ she'd guessed it was bad, but she didn't think it was this bad. somehow, he seems even grumpier than before. ]

I—

[ ... well then. >:I SHE'LL JUST SIT HERE PRETTY, I GUESS??? mako pls ]

[ok girl he's not walking with his face glued to the screen!! >:T that's how accidents happen.

He arrives within the span of fifteen minutes, and it's certainly different seeing her in person. He even deflates a little, adopting a personable slouch as he approaches, despite reeking of ANGST.]

Welcome back. Glad you're okay. [And not stuck between plastic animals and crunched metal this time.]

[ oh fine. and she has to admit, it's definitely nice to see him face-to-face again... that video communication stuff still takes some getting used to, really. ]

Thanks. Could I say the same for you?

[He averts his gaze to the ground.] Bolin's gone.

[That should speak for itself. He looks back up at her and shrugs his shoulders, taking on a firmer stance.]

We should catch up. I can whip up lunch for you at the house, if you want.

[ that much, of course, she'd known. it's a heavier weight in her chest, though, to hear it actually spoken out loud, and from him, of all people. the urge to reach out and touch him is strong, but her hand stays fisted at her side. ]

Don't trouble yourself on my account, I'm not all that hungry. [ though if he needs the action to keep his mind busy... ] Let me help, at least.

[He concedes with a nod and proceeds to get moving, pausing once to deliberate. His direction changes to head for the subway.]

So, uh. How was home? You went back, right?

[ it isn't a route she's familiar with, but she can't say she's been here long enough to be familiar with anything just yet, so she follows with one eye around them to take in the surroundings. ]

I... yeah, I think so. [ she looks kind of sheepish. ] To be honest, it felt like I hadn't left at all.

What..?

[He appears concerned, although he keeps walking. Then it occurs to him that he needs to clarify something:] It felt like you hadn't left here, or Republic City?

Here. [ she turns to give him a bit of a blank, almost helpless look, as if half-hoping he'd have a ready explanation for that. but then she turns to look back towards their path before long, shrugging. ]

It's weird. I know I was gone. But I don't remember anything of home past what we'd already been through, before we turned up here together. It's like this whole time I was... in limbo.

[He frowns, still looking at her from the corner of his eye, but he needs to pay attention now that the subway's entrance is up ahead. He'd gotten lost the first couple of times he used the system after having so much difficulty interpreting a plethora of new and different signs.]

People were disappearing shortly after you were gone. Maybe it happened to you, too. I dunno.

[He keeps his eyes trained ahead.] Either way it's definitely the fault of the City's driving forces, whatever that is. Bolin and I had meant to go check out the barrier and find a way out of it.

[ she takes care to note the way he sounds when he mentions bolin's voice. she doesn't know long long ago it was that the other boy had disappeared, and she's sure a part of him had wished that his brother had reappeared more than she did.

still, she'd feel awful without offering, albeit tentatively: ] If you're still planning on doing that, and you'd like company...

Yeah?

[It's not like Korra will be joining him anytime soon, either, and it's not just because she's turned into a child. That doesn't help, though.]

That'll work. You have a good eye for that kinda stuff anyway.
