[recognize_an_opportunity]

[Meyer doesn't always take a day off work. In fact, this is his first day off since the casino opened. That's why, on this lovely afternoon, he's wandering a little aimlessly now, cigarette in hand, looking for something to pass the time that isn't work.

For awhile, he wanders around the area by the fountain, occasionally stopping to sit down and write something down in a tiny spiral bound notebook, then standing up and wandering again. After awhile, though, he seems to get bored, and turns on the video to ask a question -- or rather, make a proposition.]

I'm going for drinks. Does anyone want to come?

[It may be a bit early in the day for drinking, but it's his day off -- this is what people do on their days off, right? With that question posed to the entire City, he strolls off in search of a bar that has relatively inexpensive and plentiful alcohol.]

Unsatisfying for either party, future interactions might become uncomfortable.

[It's so much easier for him to phrase it like it's a matter of business.]

[He has less than no idea what's happening right now. For someone who's rarely confused, this is an impressive accomplishment.]

Do you make a habit of offering that kind of thing for drinking games?

Depends on how good looking the guy is. Though I probably would have just asked you straight out, but you said you wanted to go drinking.

Is this an effective method for you? Do you charge people money for it?

[Yes, now he thinks it's some kind of bizarre scam.]

... Why would I charge people money?

[Oh, sure, she knows there are people who do and everything, but it's not something she ever thought about it. Why should she? If the person wanted to, great. If not, all right then, no loss on her part.]

Because I can't see why you'd offer it that readily for any other reason.

Don't you usually try to get to know somebody before you do that? In general, I mean.

[Because she apparently doesn't. He thinks the average person does, though.]

Sometimes.

But that might involve people getting ideas like commitment.

Not necessarily, if the terms were agreed to in advance.

But that sort of takes out the spontaneity.

I guess the drinking game could count as one, couldn't it?

[He has no idea how to explain this in a way that will make sense to both of them.]

Most things are better off not being spontaneous.

Possibly. Possibly. But that's boring.

You're a man who runs a casino but you're afraid to take a little risk?

I have no problem with calculated risk. When you run the numbers on something like this, though, it's not necessarily a reasonable gamble.

[He's totally bullshitting, because there are no numbers on something like this. How can he statistically measure something that baffles him?]

I'm sorry you doubt your abilities in bed, but I'm sure they're fine.

[He needs a cigarette. Badly. He's just going to light one and take a long drag on it before finishing his sentence.]
