[This weekend, Jinora is an adult. The airbender has the distinctive blue arrow tattoos given to those who master the art and she's at least a decade older than she normally is. Regardless, most who know her would be able to recognize her. It's peculiar; she aged physically and mentally overnight, but her memory hasn't changed at all.

That mystery isn't the one she's concerned with. Sunday afternoon finds her on the beach, contemplating the relationships between the various bending arts. Jinora's brain seems to have aged along with her body. She feels more insightful, more capable of drawing her own conclusions rather than repeating what her father has taught her. She has every intention of using this greater insight to the fullest. As a ten year-old, she had been struggling with what she had been taught about bending, suspecting that she was missing something significant. Now her thoughts seem freer and clearer.

Jinora may also be avoiding a four year-old Korra. Getting her thoughts straight with a little Avatar present was all but impossible. She hasn't wandered far, though.

Occupied as she is, Jinora's paying little attention to her surroundings, eyes focused on the rhythmic movement of the ocean waves.]

I don't think we have. I'm new here. I was told I was here before, but I don' remember any of it. [So she's relieved Jinora doesn't seem to know who she is.]

It's a pleasure, Jinora. I'm Gabriel.

That must be strange. I haven't been here for long myself.

[She bows politely.] The pleasure's mine, Gabriel. I never expected to meet a waterbender here.

Is that so? When did you arrive?

Oh, I'm not a - I'm sorry. Did you say waterbender?

Yes, but maybe that's not what it's called where you're from?

It seems to be called many different things in many places. I am the elemental angel of water. Where I come from, I am the only one who can do the things I do, but I am lead to believe it is quite a common feat in other words.

An elemental angel... does that make you a spirit?

Maybe it's not very common. Waterbending and what you do could work in different ways.

If it's easier for you to think of me that way, then yes.

How does waterbending work? I've never heard of it before, but I enjoy hearing about the ways of other worlds.

Waterbending--and other forms of bending--manipulates an element by channeling chi. Most benders only have a spiritual affinity for a single element; I'm an airbender, and I've been learning how to control the flow of energy and air in directed, focused ways.
