[She's not out there, not today, but Yin's specter is, in fact, watching Mao now, from a puddle of water.]

[ He's wandering the streets. Enjoying, not the silly curse, but the tasty young people it's pulled out onto the streets. ]

[ Which is when he spots the cat. ]

[Mao notices Yin's specter and grumbles under his breath.]

Be a cat, man. Pretend you don't notice the creepy vampire.]

[Help...he's asking for help. So now she has to go outside. At least she knows where he is.]

[Yin being Yin, though, her idea of help isn't to ask the people to stop for a little while, it's to walk right into the thick of things, basketballs bouncing around her, and sometimes off of her, to approach Mao and lift him out, then carry him home.]

[ A black cat. With a bell. Diva mentioned it to him. She said it was special, that she wanted it. ]

[ Karl wonders if that's the same cat. ]

[ Smiling, he steps closer, crouching with a palm extended, ] Here kitty~ [ If it's like any of the other animals, it'll steer clear of him. ]

[If Hei knew about this, he would doubtless have one of his little irrational tantrums. (Like the human he is.) But Mao is grateful. Most of the assholes targeting him stop when they see a cute girl pick him up.

Of course, a few of them also decide that Yin makes an even better target. Balls continue flying at them with even greater enthusiasm. Mao hisses ineffectively.]

[Oh, he remembers you, Karl. Mao backs up, hissing.]

[And Yin cares not. Let them throw. The majority of them miss, anyway. Maybe they were trying to flirt?]

[Not like Yin is capable of noticing, or returning that sentiment. She's, amazingly, managed to rescue Mao. Eventually, they're away from the basketball players. She doesn't let him down, though. If Mao wants down, he'll have to express that.]

[ Tittering, Karl leans in closer, ]

Come now. I won't hurt you. In fact, I may just take you to a nice, comfortable new home.

[Mao endures being carried while they're still being chased, but as soon as they're free, he wriggles out of her grasp.]

He turns and bolts away from Karl.]

[A beat, and then he adds.]

[Her pace slows to her more normal one.]

You asked for help. [But no one told her to go after him, no.]

Why didn't you call for Hei?

You did not say to. [Isn't it simple? It was the quickest way of proceeding.]

True. [Still, as a Doll, her role is observer. Hei's job has always been to take action. Should he be reassured that she did not do what he did not ask, or worried that she is beginning to act rather than simply observe?]

[She says nothing since Mao says little else. But he should try both of those, if a Contractor can handle it. Besides, what would Hei think of all of this?]
