[Coming out today in an Underground comic store near you -- a self-published comic by a local artist. Posters advertising the comic say: "INSPIRED BY TRUE EVENTS".]

[It's a good thing Korra's not working tonight, otherwise heads might roll. As it is, she's going to be pretty darn pissed when she finds out about this.

That doesn't make you feel better, does it? [and, jokingly (although he might be serious)] Would you like me to punch him for you? I can do that.

[Korra snorts at his question. She doesn't bother saying "Thanks, but no thanks" assuming it's implied. But it'd be easy to mistake her silence as a "yes, please."]

[Chekov plans on scolding Hei, at the very least. He'd punch him if he thought it would hurt Hei's face half as much as it would hurt his fist.]

Korra, there is nothing wrong with you or your company.

Thanks.

[She sits up to lean back against Naga.]

Sorry I'm such a downer.

If I minded, I would not be here.

[tilting her head to look at him]

How have you been?

Better, and worse. Now is a very confusing time, but nothing can be done for that.

Wanna talk about it?

[He shrugs and goes for the chocolate. It's rude to talk about himself when Korra is upset, but maybe she wants to think about something that isn't Hei?]

Of course. You've been listening to me.

See, Korra? You're a very good friend.

On one hand, Howl and Sophie are gone. On the other, Lucy and I-- [Wait, how does one talk about losing one's virginity when there aren't condom balloons and a card doing the announcing?] Ah. We're doing... well.

[She squeezes his arm sympathetically when he mentions Howl and Sophie.]

I'm sorry. So it's just you and Uhura now?

[He won't argue that, even if it's a point that could be rebutted. Thinking about Howl and Sophie is quite enough to make Chekov lapse into seriousness.]

Yes. The house is far too large for only two people, I think.

You guys could come join us in the Beach House. [Even if Uhura doesn't seem to like Korra much...for Chekov, it's a sacrifice she's willing to make.] We've got plenty of room on the top floor.

Thank you, but I would want to make sure that Uhura and your friends in the Beach House don't mind.

[It's tempting. The house is lovely and it has a lot of good memories, but it's quiet and the ticking's noticeable.]

Have you ever brought a stray person home? Not everyone appreciates that.

Lots of times, actually. [Mako, Bolin, Asami. Not to mention Tohru.] Besides, you're not a stray person. You're my best friend.

[That... makes him oddly happy.]

Perhaps I could visit?

Well duh. [Of course you can, dumbass.]

Then I will, when the house is too quiet. [seriously] Or when you would like to talk to someone.

[She nudges his shoulder with hers, a light sprinkle of annoyance and a heavy dose of affection and gratitude.]

I'll be fine. [It's hardly the worst thing that's ever happened to her. It's not even the worst thing that's happened to her this month.

Groaning a little, she stands up and stretches stiff muscles.]

We should probably get home.

[He believes her--that she'll be fine, that is. She's strong. That doesn't make him any less inclined to seek Hei out later.

Chekov hops to his feet.]

How many people live in your home?

[They start heading home.]

Including me? Five. But we've got a whole floor of bedrooms that are basically empty.

I would like to meet them. I can't leave Uhura alone, but it would be nice, living there.

[Almost like the close-quarters provided by a ship.]
