I'm not entirely sure where to look for a job, so if this isn't the right way, let me know. I will look through the shops tomorrow, but I thought I might try this way first.

I really would like a job! I was used to having one back home. Cleaning and cooking are the skills I'm good at. Back home I was working with a cleaning crew, so I have experience, too! If anyone knows of anyone hiring for such a job, or anything similar, please let me know.

Even if it's really different, though, I'll still try it!

And, again, if this is the wrong way to look, I'm sorry, and I'll do it the right way from now on. [A quick bow of apology, in case it's needed.]

[Speaking of cleaning, Tohru's been looking for cleaning supplies and trying her best to clean around the place she shares with Jinora and Korra, without being intrusive. Maybe she should've asked to do this, first? Also, is that lunch she's prepared out on the table? Yes, yes it is.]

Oh! She didn't make me. [Warm smile.] I wanted to.

[When asked about her dad, Tohru's smile doesn't even waver, though it softens a little. It was, after all, a long time ago.] He died a long time ago, when I was very young.

[At this moment in time, Jinora can't think of anything more tragic than a dead father. She would be devastated if anything happened to her dad.]

That's awful. [But Tohru seems okay, so...] Your mom is really lucky to have you to help.

[Korra can. She remembers Mako and Bolin telling her how they lost both their parents and became orphans on the street. Asami, whose mother died and whose father had been willing to kill her to get his revenge on all benders.

It's unbelievable how lucky she and Jinora are. Both of them having their parents, loving and being loved by their parents.]

I'm sorry.

[Foot in mouth again. Good job, Korra.]

I was very lucky to have her. [It's all Tohru can say, not even wanting to think about the reality back home. She's not exactly lying, but telling them about her father seems to have darkened the mood. Best not to add to it.]

It's okay. You didn't do anything wrong. And it was a long time ago. I was very young. My mother was hit by it far harder than I was. [She puts a hand on one of Korra's hands as she tries to alleviate any guilt. Then she gives them both a reassuring smile.]

[Jinora has noticed that Tohru is talking about her mother in the past tense, but she doesn't want to bring it up. Tohru's so nice; she should have a family.]

If you want to have a family in the City, me and Korra would be part of it.

[Korra isn't quite so sentimental about family, but she does like Tohru.]

We're pretty much all we've got here.

[Family, friends, they're all the same to her, equally important and irreplaceable.]

If...if that wouldn't be intruding on anything. We just met, after all. But, I like you both, a lot.

[Tohru, however, is pretty sentimental in general.]

That is something I would like, yes.

[Jinora leans over to hug Tohru. Unlike Korra, she does make a distinction between friends and family... even if the few people she knows who aren't related to her are family as far as she's concerned.

She misses them a lot.]

Then you're family now. I'll be a good little sister.

[Quieter than Ikki. It'd be nice if Ikki was around, though.]

[Korra reaches out to ruffle Jinora's hair.]

She's a pretty good big sister too.

[Tohru can't help it any longer. She's been holding back, but after Jinora's offer, she leaves her side of the table in an attempt to hug Jinora.]

You're so sweet. You both.... [she looks at Korra when she says that, smiling brightly.]

[This is possibly the happiest Jinora has been since she entered the City.]

So you don't mind?

Mind? No! Not at all.

I like it, if both of you are okay with that. Then we'll be a family!

Will you let the rest of my family be your family, too, when they come here?

Yes, of course! It wouldn't be right to make you have two different families, would it?

I don't know. I've never had two.

[She's just glad to have one right now. Maybe having a City family will make it easier to not have her real family around.]

Thank you, Tohru.

[Tohru gives her a light squeeze.]

You're welcome. But thank you, too. You both have given me a place to stay, and a family away from home.

And you've made us a great lunch.

Th-thank you. [She doesn't feel it's remotely enough, but she won't turn away Korra's appreciation.]
