[The video opens to a view of the fountain and a small pair of feet clad in unusual, tight-fitting red boots. The audio feed is little more than the buzz of many voices overlapping, words lost in the crowd.

The little feet shift, pace, and occasionally vanish out of sight. After a time, the owner of the feet sits on the fountain's edge, coming into view. She's young and petite; her billowing outfit, tied at the waist, is all subdued red-browns and yellows. Her dark brown hair is pulled into an off-center bun.

The girl looks around with wide brown eyes. It's clear that she's surprised and nervous and very possibly overwhelmed by the busy City Square, but there's no panic or jitteriness in her movements. With an air of calm grace, she draws her legs up and settles into a meditative position.]

I wish I had brought a book.

[Her eyes close. The feed times out long before she moves.]

[ooc: Er... this does not happen at the same time as the goat-slaughtering post.]

[She looks up hesitantly. Her dad would be so mad if he caught her talking to strangers, but...]

I'm lost.

[ But he seems so concerned and well-meaning. Surely not dangerous at all. ]

Have you just arrived here?

[He's kind of cute, too. Cute guys can't be dangerous.]

Yes. Is this Republic City?

[ He's harmless as a lamb. Harmlesser. If that is indeed a word. ]

I'm afraid not. This is The City. [ He assumes an air of sympathy. ] You've been brought here by mysterious forces called the Deities.

[She thinks for a moment. That's kind of crazy.]

Why are you in a box?

Er...

[ Oh, great. One of those techno-ignoramuses. A child from Hei's world be all over the device already. ]

It's not a box. It's a Network Device. It helps you keep in touch with other people.

[The child looks skeptical.]

A Network Device? [Enjoy some dizzying camera-turning as she examines it.] Can it help me find my family?

It could. Provided your family's here.

[She pauses, hoping to hear someone she knows--Ikki, maybe, since Ikki can be heard from miles away. There's nothing. She just doesn't get the impression that they're around.]

I don't know if they are.

There's only one way to be sure. [ He summons an encouraging smile. ] Call someone's name out over the device? Maybe they'll respond if they're here.

[She smiles back, but it's fleeting.]

Do I need to stop talking to you to do that?

Not really. You can access multiple channels on the Device. [ How to break it down simply? ] It's like an octopus. It has figurative arms for more than one purpose.

So I can talk to a lot of people at one time?

[That makes some sense. Now if she just knew what the buttons did... but she can't ask this person because he can't see the buttons from inside the device.

Oh--manners.]

Thank you for your help. I'm Jinora.

That's right. [ Here. Some child-easy instructions. ] Just press the little red button on the top-right. So you can access all the channels. [ He nods politely. ] Nice to meet you, Jinora. I'm Li Shenshung. [ Helpfully, he adds, ] If you can't find anyone you know, we can always take you to the Welcome Center.

[She does as instructed and is a little surprised when more pictures show up, but the one with the boy doesn't disappear.]

You too, Li Shenshung. [And then uncertainty.] I'm here alone?

[ It's *~magical~* ]

Just Li is fine. [ He shakes his head. ] You don't know for sure if you're alone yet. But if you are, don't worry. The City has housing and food all worked out for children.

But I can't be alone. Dad would never, ever leave me alone.

[ Sigh. He's from a world where fathers commit worse crimes than leaving their kids alone. ]

It wasn't his choice, your being here. It's the City's fault. It takes people from different worlds at random. No one has a say in it.

[Her dad is an awesome dad. Except for when he's embarrassing and preventing her from having friends and meeting boys. So there.]

That's rude.

[Wait. She's alone. How does that work?]

I've never been alone in a city before. What should I do?

I agree. It's worse than rude. [ Hnghh. You aren't his responsibility, kid. ] Your best option is to head to the Welcome Center. Miss Penny -- the lady who runs it -- will be able to help you. She's very nice. [ He pauses, considering, then forwards directions. ] Can you make sense of those?

[Nice is good. Jinora's starting to get the hang of the phone; it doesn't take her long to open the forwarded directions.]

I can get there.

You're welcome, Jinora. [ Aaaand that's his quota of good deeds for the month. ] Stay safe. Don't talk to anyone with, um, pointy teeth.

[Now Li's just being ridiculous. There aren't people with pointy teeth.]

This place exists outside the realm of logic. There's a lot of things here you don't see too often.
