[She'd awoken that morning with a loud gasp. It took her a moment to realize that what had startled her out of sleep was the beating her own heart. It was loud enough to make her head hurt.

What........how....

Immediately she thinks of Chekov. He's made trades for people's lives before, and she'd had to really talk him out of making a trade for hers. Maybe he had succumbed to heroic temptation.

She should be grateful. A part of her is. The larger part of her is angry that he would do what she had explicitly told him not to. The idea of someone making a sacrifice to save her doesn't sit right with her at all.

She grabs her device.]
