( Yes, this is Amy Pond, sitting down on the edge of the fountain — a little older. ) How long has it been? Bucky? ( A painfully hopeful expression. ) Doctor? Doctor, are you here?

[ He should just go. Shrug off the differences. He'd upset the other girl the last time he was here, made her sad. ]

James Barnes, yeah? ( Of course it is. ) From some other universe than the one I know, 'm guessing.

[ He glances away from her for a second, across the crowded places before he nods, moves a little closer. ]

You must be someone I know here, right? [ He doesn't smile much, but he does seem less on guard. ] The kid from the 1940s. Last time I was here, Steve explained.

I— yeah. Jaime and I, we're pretty good friends. ( This him seems so much harder, but she knows that Bucky, Jaime, that he's a soldier and she's seen him fight, seen him at his worst — or maybe not quite, but pretty low. )

Wanna get a drink?

[ He can't get drunk, not after the Russians changed him, but this girl seems - . Well, she reminds him of something long ago and he knows he should tell her to stay away from him, he can hide out for the next two days, of course he can. But maybe he doesn't want to. ]

As long as I'm not running the risk of me running into him, sure.

( He's still James Barnes, even if he isn't the man that she knows. It's kind of like with the Doctor, only not quite. Alternative universes are a mess, but then that's Amy's life, isn't it? )

No running into Jaime, gotcha. C'mon.

[ Following her. ]

So Jaime, huh?

He calls me Ames, so yeah. Jaime. It's only fair.

So you're an Amy.

[ He can figure out that much from his own mind. ] I'm surprised he even lets you call him anything with a J. Back then I used t'hate it.

Amy Pond, yeah. Hi.

( Huh. ) Are you from his future, or from a different universe, or both?

I don't know.

[ He shrugs his flesh and blood shoulder, conscious of how awkward the metal one must seem if she only knows the boy he used to be. ]

From what I could tell, he hasn't even made it as far as anything that could decide, help us figure it out. It could be both, but I ain't Reed Richards, so I'm not too keyed in to the dimension thing.

( She's used enough to timetravel and dimensions that she can just accept him as a different version, separate from the man she knows, so it's less awkward than it could be. )

I've no idea who reed Richards is, but all right. Future and/or a different universe, gotcha.

Mr. Fantastic. [ Bucky's grin is wry. ] Not very fantastic to me.

[ He's watching the crowds still, like he's half expecting to be attacked or something. ]

Yeah, no, doesn't ring a bell. But then, I'm definitely from a way different universe than you guys.

See, he'd get that, me, not so much.

( Shrugging. It's not like it really matters. ) 's just a big mess of, what was it, timey-wimey stuff. Yeah. Don't worry 'bout it.

So does this whole visiting thing happen often then?

Every few months, yeah. Maybe three, four times a year. ( A shrug. ) This is a pretty strange place.

( Like an afterthought: ) Thanks.

[ He waves off the thanks. ]

And do people keep turning up?

In between? Or the same people, you mean, for visitor's day? 'cause it's both, really.
