[Pretend this was posted earlier today.]

I only came out for a bit, but I should have stayed inside.

Is anyone else caught outside in this? [Figures he should ask and see if anyone needs help before turning back around. It's not noticeable on the feed, but there are hands reaching for Ken's ankles. The screen does show him turn back, looking alarmed.]

[Then he shuts off the feed, rather than anybody watch if this doesn't go well. He's pretty skinny, easy to pull through the slimmest of cracks.]

[ooc: Action if anyone wants to witness or help, otherwise video responses will happen an hour after the fact, yes at the graveyard.]

[Hey, Ken. Welcome back to life.

Justin's in the graveyard, sitting with his back against a headstone. He's covered in dirt and... remarkably calm, all things considering.]

Did something get you?

[Looking a little down about it, he nods his head. Then he connects it, and looks downright worried as he rushes over to Justin.]

They didn't get you too, did they?

Sorry.

[Justin's fine. Coming back from the dead is nice that way; it fixes whatever lead to that death.]

Something did. How are you?

Why are you sorry? It's not your fault if that happened....

I feel weird. I've never been through anything like that before.

It's just... something to say.

[He gets up and--and he isn't sure what to do. He feels bad for Ken.]

Try not to go through it again.

[He looks down at that.]

It's okay. I don't want to.

[Shy look up.] Do you think we should stay here until midnight? Would they try to grab for us again?

Good.

[He shrugs.] I've never been attacked in the graveyard. I was thinking about staying here... there's only so much that can be done to help.

You've been attached other places, though? Outside of this curse?

And okay. I'll stay here, for the time being.

...Justin-san, how old are you?

Twice.

[Justin's visibly relieved. He likes Ken; he doesn't want to see him get killed. Again.]

Twenty-three. Twenty, physiologically. Why do you ask?

This place is...violent. [And frustrating without his partner so he can fight back and be worth something.]

[Ken doesn't want to be killed again, either. Or see Justin killed. Again.]

Li-san said I should stay with an adult, and while you are very mature, I wanted to make certain instead of assuming.

It can be. It's more violent when you invite trouble.

[Aw, Ken. That almost makes Justin smile.]

Good idea. I'll do what I can to make sure nothing else happens to you.

Then I'll try not to give it reason to think I'm inviting it. [As he is now, at least. It's hard for him not to want to help people, though. Or not stick his nose into everything.]

Y-you don't have to, you know? But thank you for that. I'm sure there are other things you could be doing than looking out for me.

[He looks slightly embarrassed.] I'm staying here. I lost my gun... I'm useless without it.

But that's-!

[Ken looks a little horrified at that. Then looks towards out of the graveyard.] And looking for it would mean going out there.

That's why I want to stay here.

Then I'll stay here with you. And when it's safe again, I'll help you look.

I don't know if the City's ever safe.

...When you died. Was it at least quick?

[Ken nods his head, though he might be half lying.]

But it feels like it didn't last long. [Yay for rainbow mooncakes, against all his better judgement.]

What about you?

[That doesn't sound like it didn't last long, but Justin will take it.]

How do you feel now?

[And another shrug.] It wasn't as bad as it could've been.

Not like they say it feels to be dead. I still feel warm. I have a pulse.

[He looks up at Justin, hand slightly reaching out, like he wants to grab Justin's arm and see if it's warm, but he doesn't actually do it.] Do you have one?

What?

[Justin completes the action that Ken began, hand going to his wrist. He's surprised; he hasn't heard of anyone coming back to life alive except during certain curses, and Justin didn't return alive. He's cold and definitely lacking a pulse.]

I don't, no. I don't understand.

You don't.... [Such a sad look from Ken.] I'm sorry. [Not like it's his fault, but what else can one say at a time like this?]

[ooc: Curious, you got plans set to get his life back? If not, Ken would do a deity trade in a heartbeat, and the setup is perfect.]

It's fine. [Justin's used to being dead; it's troubling to see Ken upset about it, though.] I'm glad you're not dead.

[ooc: Not a plan in sight! (Seriously, Justin has spent a lot of time being dead.)]

Yeah, but...isn't it weird? Why am I not dead? [And it doesn't matter what Justin says, Ken still feels awful, more so because he somehow lived when Justin didn't.]

[ooc: So any objections to Ken making a trade?]

It is. Have you done anything unusual lately? Did you speak to the deities?

[ooc: Not a one. ^^]

No, I haven't. There isn't anything really strange of late.

[ooc: Sweet. Justin's even free to scold him for it. Ken will just make cute little, "I'm sorry" faces at him.]

It doesn't matter.

[He sits down again, back to a headstone. If something decides to attack, he'd prefer to see it coming.]

That bothers me. It really doesn't bother you at all?

Not really. This is the fourth time I've died; I'm done being bothered.

[He's quiet for a moment, Ken really unsettled for it, and he can't explain it to Justin, either.]

Then, I guess I'm glad you're not bothered by it.

[Justin takes a moment to study Ken's expression.]

But you are?

[Ken nods his head.]

Yes.

Ken-chan?

Are you okay?

Yes, yes. I'm fine.

Are you alright, Li-san?

Are you sure? Those ... things didn't get you, did they?

...Me? Y-Yes. A little spooked, that's all.

[Quiet little voice of shame.] Yeah, they did.

Spooked? Are you inside? I could go keep you company until this is over.

Oh no! You aren't hurt, are you?

...I am. Now. But don't head outside, Ken-chan. It's too risky. I can make it alone until midnight.

I'm not injured. [Just back from the dead. And he can't bring himself to tell Li that. He doesn't seem City!dead, though. Mmmm, the careful boy may have given in back at the festival.]

I'm already outside, though. But when it seems safe, I'll make it back to my apartment. You sure you'll be alright?

You should have yourself checked. Just in case. Sometimes the adrenaline makes people forget how badly hurt they are.

[ That indulgence may have saved your life, Ken. ]

Try to stay with an adult outside. If possible. And I'll be fine. I'm more worried about you.

Well, for now, I'm going to stay in the graveyard. Justin-san says he's never been attacked here.

[It completely did.]

I'm sorry, Li-san! You don't need to worry about me. I think we're safe here. [So can't tell him about the probably died thing, now. Not after that.]

Oh? You're with Mr. Justin? [ He sounds convincingly relieved. ] Even so. I hope the curse stops soon. [ Gentler. ] I'll make you something nice when all this craziness ends.

Yes, I am. I hope it stops as well.

I wish I could make something nice for you in return.

Stay alive. And okay.
