Yesterday seemed so sad. Even if it was just a curse, everyone was acting as if they were going to be separated even before they were married. Why would anyone want to sign such a negative agreement in anticipation for a life long journey together? Isn’t that why you make sure you find ‘the one’ meant for you, to ensure you two can have a life happy together? I suppose creating and signing such a contract seems so counterproductive to marriage. If a problem arises, then the two of you should work together to fix it, right? Because… you love each other, right?

[Because marriage was supposed to be about love; a binding contract between two people. Being a princess, perhaps her ‘marriage’ to anyone would be different, unless she went out and decided to spend her life with the one she loves. So yes, her saying this is hypocritical in a sense, but it’s so sad. But if she had to be married, she would want to spend her life with the one she loves. That would make her happy.]

Things are done differently in different worlds... I think most people would rather work things out when they come up, too...

Oh, do you really think so, Tyr? I would sure hope people would rather work things out rather than separate. Fighting is never fun, but I suppose a good relationship is never perfect, right? Sometimes people fight, but they make up in the end.

[ He nods. ] That's right. Besides, after fighting, it's easier to relax and not think of it... That's the good thing about those documents, too: People could talk about those things before they got married...

...Though I guess most people aren't going to anymore...

I suppose that is a good thing. If the worst possible scenario occurred, then everything would be resolved. Still, I don't get why people would anticipate for the worst, especially in something as committed as marriage.

I think it's because it's a commitment that people want to have a plan... When something goes wrong, you want to know what to do...

I doubt people's first thought when they get engaged is disaster planning, but...it's something that you need to do sometime.

Well, when it's put that way, it makes a lot of sense. But I would still plan to stay with someone if I've made such a commitment to them!

Then think of it as an agreement of things to watch out for rather than a list of reasons to separate... You don't need to break your commitment...

I suppose it would be a good list for that. Perhaps a list of warning signs for when you both would need to speak to each other and work out any misunderstandings that have occurred.

[ He breathes a little sigh and nods. ]

Exactly. I doubt anyone would really break off any relationships without figuring out what's going on first... It'd be the same with marriage.

Yes, I agree. If a relationship is valuable to you, then you would work to save it, am I correct?

[But then what happens if a relationship isn't valuable? That's teh scary thought.]

That's right. So it wasn't the curse's intention to seem hopeless, I think.

Perhaps not, but with everyone signing them, it really did seem that way.

...That wasn't what Rita and I were planning when we signed, so there had to be others like us.

I know that you two wouldn't sign something like that with the intent of ending your relationship.
