[ Liam stared at the theater for a long time before slowly shuffling along, looking at one movie theater poster after another. He hasn't ventured here before, preferring to stick with more traditional entertainment, but tonight, he felt adventurous.

-- And the ticking noise of the empty apartment was starting to get to him.

Quietly, he took out his phone and hesitated. Sometimes, advice was welcomed, and other times... No helping it. Turning it on, he showed them a pan of the movie posters:

Better off Dead
The Blob
The Expendables
An American Tail

After a long pause, he turns the phone so he can frown into it. ] I'm afraid I've never seen a movie before. Are any of these worth seeing? [ although it hardly matters. Anything to get the ticking to stop. ]

Yes, they are a little, um... weird, but I've heard that a movie is supposed to be an experience one shouldn't ever miss.

[ mostly quoting from a pamphlet he read. He's not entirely sure, still, if he should believe it. ]

Are you interested in viewing a movie sometime? [ he wouldn't lie, but the company would be appreciated. He just assumes Leo would much prefer Elliot's company. ]

I haven't heard the same, so I don't think so.

[ oh, as he thought. Liam must do this alone. ]

I see... [ his voice wavers a little, but only a little. He's far too used to trying to cover his shame least he be teased. It rarely works. ] Then, do you have other plans for the night?

[ just a momentary distraction. He can hardly afford to insult Leo by pushing the subject. ]

[ ... as he thought. Leo didn't like him at all then. Ah well, it had been worth a try as he liked to say. He simply preferred actual success (and it was expected of him too! Damn you, Rufus.) ]

Then might I suggest you take [ elliot for ] a walk? The evening air might do you and Elliot some good. [ he can be a doddering old man if he wants to. Stufu. ]

...I don't know what you've been told, but it's better for both of us if you don't force yourself to act concerned about me.

I... I apologize. I shouldn't have overstepped my boundaries. [ he was only a bit concerned because, well... he was brand new himself not too long ago. He knows how difficult it can be to adjust. ]

[ oh, no. He didn't. ]

I beg your pardon? This place can be overwhelming to someone who hasn't been here before. I simply thought you'd prefer Elliot to show you around rather then myself!

I thought you'd prefer me not giving you more work to do.

[ He's only looking out for you, Liam. You have enough on your plate, after all.

[ he almost laughs ] I'm afraid I'm with far less work here then I was back home. There seems to be some rule that dictates I can only work forty hours a week. [ which was vexing when he was forced to leave work on the table. ]

[ Not really conversationally asking, just sort of feels like it's what one is supposed to do in cases like these. ]

I'm simply used to staying busy. [ he hardly approves or disapproves. It's simply a matter of what gets the job done or not. ]

You could try taking up a hobby.

[ Either for reading as a hobby, or finding out about a hobby! It's great. ]

[ ah. ] Yes, I have spent many hours [ composing odes to Break and Sharon ] there on research. There's a guide for everything. [ he's particularly fond of the "dummies guide to..." series. ]
