Somebody out there's gotta know the full answer to this, so I'm just gonna ask. How many kinds of curses are there? So far I'm counting status effects, crazy invented memory bullshit, world curses. Anything else?

[ a good book's a good excuse, right? you're so into it you can't stop reading. he puts it down when there are sounds from the door... not that he was reading it. (as if he could concentrate on reading after everything that has happened. or hearing what has happened. ]

[ the door receives this news with something of a shifty silence.

the good news is that it opens eventually! in totters a boy with a hat, possibly four bags dangling from his arms—and a new limp. it takes him a moment to adjust his bearings, since he looks immediately for the source of the voice. ]

... hey. Spitfire.

[ looks up from his book ("characterisation of the fatigue crack growth behaviour of advanced aero-engine alloys") and greets him with a cheeky smile. ]

You look like rubbish. Come in.

—yeah, thanks, I was going for that. Uh.

[ he holds up his arms like branches. branches dangling a lot of Chinese takeout in plastic bags. ]

You want these anywhere?

Put them on the table. Or just throw one on my lap, if you don't mind.

[ dead can't get hungry but he really missed the smell of chinese. is that funny? ]

The rest is for you, you need it more than I do. [ eyes his thin figure. boy you gotta eat. ]

[ Spitfire gets tossed the first box of something stirfried that comes up while Kazu sets the rest in bags on the table. at which point he halts. ]

... I'm not that hungry. The other guy—Raikov— [ why does that sound familiar... ] he eats, right?

[ catches the box and opens it. ]

Yeah, it's something that I've seen him doing. Leave it there, he'll find it when he comes home, and take a seat.

This must be the first time I've ever heard a boy your age saying he's not hungry.

Guess that's good...? Least you know he's not a vampire!

[ oh. good. directions. he shuffles over, takes whatever seat there is that doesn't involve the ground—and holds out the plastic chopsticks they ceded with the order. ]

... I can eat later, that stuff doesn't go bad for a while.

[ stares at the offered chopsticks as if they somehow personally offended him. ]

Hey now, I can't be the only one eating.

[ see, it's really hard not to take Spitfire seriously with that expression. Kazu blinks at once, then makes the tiniest of grimaces. ]

I can... grab a box?

Yeah, you do that.

[ grabs the chopsticks from him. ]

You have to eat more. Clearly. I think I can count your ribs even through your shirt.

[ this, this is the opposite of a win. he gets up to play fetch for himself. ]

Think that'd be a problem with my shirt more than me.

[ leans back with his box. looking as relaxed as ever. just chilling, nothing to see here. ]

Haha, you're right about that. Unless you do want to wear something see-through.

... That's so far out of my style, I can feel it entering an alternate dimension.

[ the food does smell good, and having a box and utensils in hand mean that Kazu only shifts a little bit awkwardly for the thanks. ]

[ true transparency is Kazu's face, which goes through obvious surprise, suspicion, disgruntlement, awkwardness—before settling on rueful. ]

... nah, it's nothing, things're kinda over now. [ mostly true. ] Pretty sure Agito's gonna have it out for me for a while, though.
