A dirty man appears [Video/Action]

[Video clicks on right as someone in jeans, cowboy boots and a T-shirt that says "+20 Shirt of Smiting" across it, sits down in the fountain. Harry is looking particularly unkempt like maybe he hasn't washed in uh... a few months. Because he's been mostly dead. He got 'not dead' only a little while ago so it's totally not his fault. Well ok it kind of is. Anyway, he jumps right back up with a shout of protest. ]

Hey! Stars and stones that's... uh... not as cold as it should be.

[He realizes he is no longer at the edge of an Island at the south end of Lake Michigan. And that is about the time a long stick drops out of the sky and beans him across the head. There is cursing. Luckily the video fuzzes enough that people can't be TOO offended by it. Between bits of snow he picks up the staff from the water and frowns at it.]

I thought you bit the dust. What the hell is going on?

[And now he realizes he's not even in Chicago. And this is definitely not the Nevernever. Unless they got a really creative ghost taking up residency. He stomps toward the edge of the water which is still doing a decent job of grounding his magic out and letting that device keep broadcasting.]

Huh, someone dropped their... phone? Thing? Did phones change again? I can't keep up with this crap. What's the red light mean? Hell's bells,  did I break it already?

Mmmhmmm. Owned a magic supply shop actually. Which I now run.

And yes, I know about all the technology issues and such. It's a big house. I can stick you down at an end away from the more sensitive stuff.

Some, yes, not that there's always a lot to do in that line here. He did try to find out who was responsible for, well... for my abduction and torture and the deaths of a number of others.

[It still bothers her that she had no memory of any of it and that she was the only one of all the abductees deliberately left alive. And that no one had ever been caught.]

[And then there's laughter.]

I think just the fact that you're asking that lets me know you're probably not.

[Whistling in the dark, Harry, whistling in the dark. Though now that she's brought it up, she'll probably have a lovely nightmare or two for a few nights.]

Yeah, I... Yeah.

Anyway...

I'll be careful. I'm pretty sure I could smell if it wasn't you, so I think we're good.

You're more than welcome. There's eight some bedroom suites here and I'm currently the only one living here. Even has a great fireplace. And I'm a mechanic, so if you knock something out I can probably get it running again.

It's been my home for over three years now and I do mean my home. There shouldn't be any problem with the threshold.

It was built for a large group of people to share - almost their own mini-apartment building, just nicer. Unfortunately, I'm the only one left now.

You did something around the house. I could sense the magic. But I'm not sure what you did. It was after the, you know. I think it was for protection. But you - he - I think didn't really want me to know how much he was watching out for me. So we both kind of pretended he wasn't.

Made me feel a lot safer, though.

Yes.

Oh, right. I forgot you wouldn't know. I'm a walker. I can shift into a coyote,

Not like a werewolf, though I was raised by them. I choose when and if I want to shift and it's quick and painless. I don't get the nifty superstrength and superhealing powers, unfortunately, but it has a few benefits, like being able to sense magic.

[She'd figured he didn't want to remind her or make her feel like she needed to be protected, especially right after her return from the hospital when she was struggling to try and make everything normal.]

Sure, that would be great. See what's there and what it's for.

Theriomorph?

Spells?

Look, don't go confusing me with a skinwalker! I don't use a skin or a spell or deal with any evil magic stuff. Walkers are Native American supernatural beings, and when the Europeans came they sort of linked them all in together.

I was born this way, it's just a natural part of who I am.

More protection here's always good. Now if only there were some way to stop the curses.

I'm not a were anything either. And believe me, the werewolves I was raised with were very eager to point that out.

Let's just say I can shift into a coyote and leave names off of it, hey?

Sorry you had a run-in with one of those evil things. Just the idea of them gives me the creeps.

The thresh-? Oh. Huh... Well... it doesn't seem to. Curses just... affect everyone. Not everyone is affected by every curse, of course, but I've never known of anyone who went uncursed for long.

Wolves in the wild will kill a coyote and some instincts transfer pretty strongly. I was lucky I ended up where I did. A lot of the alphas would have just had a coyote pup killed outright instead of keeping me safe and letting me grow up with the pack.

In that case, technically I'm a Walker. No skin or anything before it. Just Walker.

Yeah, well, a ton of people would probably pay big bucks if you could find a way to shield them from the curses.

Coyotes are a lot better at repressing their natural instincts than wolves are. I don't blame them for being what they are. {Much. Most of the time. Sometimes.]

Smart and learny, huh? {He does seem to know how to make her laugh.] Uh huh... Theriomorph isn't too bad, I suppose.

Magic, well... everyone who does magic here seems to have a different way of doing it, so I'd bet you're right.

[She... kind of likes that he said that, even if she'd probably never admit it.]

Mercedes or Mercy is just fine - whichever you prefer.

[Well, she did grow up with werewolves, so he had a lot farther to go on the annoyed spectrum than he would with most women.]

Oh definitely. [And definitely teasing.]

Anyway, welcome to the City and all its oddities. If you want, I can meet you at the Welcome Center at some point, bring you out to show you the beach house.

Absolutely.

I'll see you there in a bit.

[She wondered if she should point out that while she knew him - or at least another version of him from before - and felt pretty confident of her safety with him in the house, he had no idea who she was.

Nah.]
