[ trecks flung over his shoulder, a pair of cheap sneakers thrown on and not even tied properly-- but he's in the library, walking through the door to the room Kazu called him to, and obviously not happy at all with this. ]

[ yeah, walking through fifty checkpoints can't have made him very happy. Kazu's tucked into one of the window alcoves anyway, apparently checking a record—and looks up in the moment Agito arrives. ]

... Sorry. I'll keep it short.

I said five minutes. [ Agito doesn't bother getting any closer. Just stands right in the door way, fingers of one hand curled into his pants' pocket, while the other hangs at his side, near his trecks. ]

We do have a base, beanpole.

[ he pulls a slow breath, lowers the papers but makes no motion to get up, still sitting on his heels. ]

Government upgraded the laws again. One of the bigger teams locked down a city for a week—another one reopened a factory and started mass-producing shitty A-Ts. The two of 'em combined got A-T holding made totally illegal. They're starting to run a couple of the cities like camps now—separating A-Ters and shipping them in there.

[ the tiniest of beats, as if he hadn't heard Agito at all. ]

Behemoth was one of the teams they brought in.

I haven't given up. [ he bites off, taking a step forward into the room. ]

It doesn't matter here. I won't remember any of this fucking shit when I go home. It won't help me to know now. Akira wouldn't get caught. I know exactly where he is back home, ninety percent of the time. I've got tabs on every damned rider who's above C class.

The damned crow is back. I'm not worried.

Yeah, we don't know any way yet. You ever wonder what happens to the extra memories when we get out of this place?

[ tensely fixed on Agito, of course, and damn if he isn't too dumb for this. ]

And he didn't get caught. They're his old team, what'd you think he was gonna do? He went after them.

[ he doesn't want to hear it. doesn't want to know about shit he can't do anything about, right now. the Akira here is safe enough, at least-- but fuck, back in his timeline, he couldn't have---

no. Agito turns himself around, and moves to walk out of the room. ]

[ bingo.

there's a small opening in a turn where the subject's head turns away, orienting without having become secure just yet. guard down, distracted—and Kazu's flipping the knife out from under the record's paper, legs kicking to ground, and moving.

they're only regular skates, what he managed to bring in, with no engine to supplement his speed—library system restrictions and all—but three years' trecking have helped enough with his time to make him a little too fast to be an easy catch. sharper on the turn. he's across the room in a heartbeat, the blade slicing through the A-T laces to hook them in his fingers. ]

[ the reaction's immediate. Kazu's gotten hold of his trecks, but at the same time, Agito's grabbed onto him. his fingers twist into the back of that stupid ass coat, grip tight and unrelenting. at the same moment, his other hand swiftly moves out of his pocket, and reaches for his trecks. ]

WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?!

[ except Kazu's taller, his reach longer, and—yeah, this is a sharp punch to the jaw. ]

[ his teeth bite down hard into his cheek, but Agito ignores it. one hand has a hold on one of his trecks, the other's shifting to throw his knuckles into-- Kazu's ribcage, his shoulder, whatever's in front of him because there's something more important to focus on. maybe it's a stupid way to attempt to win this, but he is pretty desperate about now. ]

Fuck! I thought you were better than this!

Your team isn't going to appreciate you saving their asses in exchange for this! Storm riders have their fucking pride!

Shut the fuck up.

[ a brawl's a brawl. the blows land well—but Kazu's got momentum to spare. he shifts on his brakes, kicks forward in a single sharp movement to slam Agito into a wall before yanking savagely at the trecks to drag them out of reach. ]

Shit... who do you think you're talking about? Storm Riders used to have pride. Nobody's looking for the sky anymore—these guys didn't ask for anything but peace, and now they're not even gonna have that!

If Kings can't do anything for them, then what's the point of the goddamn Regalia?

The second you leave this room with those, it's over. You'll be a goddamned traitor, and I swear-- next time we cross paths, I'll kill you!

[ his nose flares, fingers gripping onto the trecks as tight as possible-- but with Kazu yanking on them like that, the hold doesn't last for long. he lunges forward instead, reaching for Kazu again. ]

Fuck-- just give them back! Before you destroy everything!

[ except Kazu's already skidding backwards, moving sharply back towards the window. it's quiet—god, there's nothing here but them. their voices, and not a single breath of wind. even his low words carry enough to snap the stillness. ]

Wish I still believed that.
