[Nothing different about tonight in the City, not even the giant splash that comes from fountain in the Square as a teenaged girl falls into it out of nowhere. Nope, just the usual. When she comes up for air, her gasping and shrieking about how cold the water is, it’s still the usual entrance for the new people, soaking wet clothes and all.]

Tommy! I’m going to break the rule for throwing me into the pool and don’t even attempt to-- …Tommy?

[Half out of the fountain, Kate glances around, noticing that this is no longer the pool at her house or her house at all. Or even New York City for that matter. Damn. She hangs her head in defeat because this is one battle Kate knows she won’t win because once a person has been through the timestream and back, they know something's about to go down.

And nothing's going to be fun.]

Please tell me this isn't a part of Latveria we didn't explore.

Superhero Registration. 'Course, how could I forget.

[ Pause. ] What the hell is Superhero Registration?

Exactly what it sounds like. The Act meant that anybody with powers was required to register with the government as "a weapon of mass destruction" and go public. If you signed on, you could work with SHIELD. If you didn't, you got arrested.

[She pauses to raise her eyebrows at him in a wary sort of expression.]

There was a lot of tension from it. [An understatement.]

Yeah, that's where I thought that was going.

[ It's possible SHIELD could organise that, but there aren't that many superheroes floating around. ]

Can imagine. How many are there?

How many what?

Members on your team. Others like them.

[ He's avoiding the term 'superhero' because, well, he can't include himself in that category, but he's okay with that. ]

[And there goes the question Kate was dreading. How does she answer this? The Young Avengers aren't really the Young Avengers anymore. They're something, but what?]

Hard to say when you're not really a team anymore. [Take that as you see fit, Clint.] Aside from them, a lot, but not as many as there used to be.

[She is so not about to get into the story of Wanda and mutants.]

Trouble in paradise? [ There's something amused creeping into his face. ] I kinda missed the beginning of our team gathering, but getting everyone to band together was no picnic.

[ Which translates into the fact that even Avengers, the team these kids seem to idolise where they're from, aren't that perfect. ]

As far as I know? We're the only ones.

Two of us died.

[Careful there, Barton. You might want to kill that amusement.]

[ No one's dying today. Look, he can do serious, his neutral serious expression even looks serious. ]

We lost someone recently too. [ The empathy is real, and he doesn't say sorry because he hates it when people say sorry. Coulson is here, though, and the blood of the others are partially on his hands. ] Not easy, is it?

[Sorry won't bring Cassie and Jonas back or put the team back together the way it used to be. Quiet as it's kept, Kate's grateful for him not saying the word.]

No. Then one of us moved to Arizona and I... quit. [For reasons.] So that's where we are now.

[ He's listening even though he doesn't speak much, and as tempted as he is to ask why she chose to quit, he doesn't do that either. ]

The City is full of second chances. You never know what you might find here.

I don't need a second chance.

[She doesn't have the right to one, still.]

That's what I thought.

[ But someone he knows got one and he changed his mind. ] Give it time.

[She's given it months and she's still mostly undecided, even with the adult Avengers recognizing them as true Avengers and not just kids anymore. Time won't bring her friends back, won't wipe away Eli's guilt, or remove all their stupid teenaged mistakes.]

How much?

[She doesn't actually expect him to answer or to even have an answer.]</small.

[ Something close to empathy tries to tug its way into his features, because he's still waiting to find out the answer to that, thinks he probably always will. ]

I'll let you know as soon as I find out.

[It's the answer she would have guessed he would give if she really wanted one so it doesn't really effect Kate either way. All she does in response is slide her hands into her wet pockets and shrugs.]

Same here.

C'mon, we should get you dried off. [ He slows to a stop in front of a building, unlocking it, and he holds it open. ]

[Kate just nods and walks through the door, mumbling some thanks for the door as she stand aside waiting for Clint to lead her the rest of the way.]

[ And he does, getting them into the lift and to the top floor, stopping outside of the apartment door to unlock it.

He pushes it open, gestures for her to go in ahead. ] Everyone's out. I'll check Tasha's room for booby-traps.

[Booby traps. Tasha. It's not a far leap nor does it take long for Kate to get it together that yes, it is the same Tasha she was assuming it was. She raises her eyebrows, looking amused and concerned at the same time. It's a skill.]

You live with the Black Widow?

[If there aren't any booby traps, then Kate wonders if Natasha is slipping.]

[ There's a thud, an intake of breath, and then Clint peers around the doorframe. ]

Don't worry, we're not settling down with children. [ If anything, Coulson and Natasha are the parents and he's the kid.

Coming out and holding something up. ] This do?

That... wasn't what I was thinking, actually.

[But now she's wondering things. Thanks, Clint. Pants and a shirt. Works for her.]
