[Buffy will show up later that night, after the Summers dinner. She lets herself into the youth center but knocks at Derek's door. When he opens it, he'll find her there with a bottle of tequila and a bag of lemons.]

[Derek leans a shoulder against the doorframe to his private section of the Center, studying her for a moment and trying to decide if this is a good idea or not. But Buffy is one of his friends in this City. They teach self-defense classes and spar a lot when they need it. So finally, he steps aside and lets her in.]

What's up with you? Couldn't sleep either?

I'm all night owl-y. What can I say? Just decided this would be more fun than patrolling in the Underground. [She steps over the threshold, into his rooms.]

[There's a small office space with a desk and a table and further in is the bedroom. He sticks to the office space, turning on a lamp for her and offering her one of the chairs at the table.]

That's a long list, things that are more fun than patrolling the Underground.

[Buffy takes a seat, putting the tequila on the table.]

If you're me, the list is shorter. In any case, you're at least on my list of top three ways to spend an insomniac night.

[ And she might be 16 and living in her own head most of the time, but she knows when someone needs a distraction, so she keeps talking. ] I find the curse today rather disconcerting, but it is hardly something that is harmful in the long term, I should think.

Nah, not harmful at all. Maybe a little awkward in some places but I'm kind of enjoying the fact that it's as distracting a curse as it is. [It helps to keep his mind occupied away from other things he really doesn't want to think about.]

Things have changed very much since my time.
