You overestimate your ability, Hagi. As Chevaliers, it was supped to be our second nature to protect Diva. Yet Solomon defied his. Do not suppose you will be any better at anticipating his...change of heart. The only thing binding him to Saya is a Chevalier's instinct to mate with the other Queen. Once that bears fruit, his obsession will end.

[His eyes narrow, even as his smile remains.]

How childish. Has it not occured to you that your life- and Saya's- could have scaled grander heights, had you joined our cause? Certainly, there would be far less threats to her existence.

Of course it will. You forget that the urge to procreate is what compelled that boy Saya called her 'brother' to mate with Diva at all. Instinct is the sole spark in Solomon's fascination for Saya. The basic urge to father the next generation of Queens.

[He chuckles briefly.]

Humanity is headed for its own destruction, Hagi. We simply profit from it, where and how we can.

You forget, Hagi. You are an anomaly among Chiropterans. You and Saya. It is why your lives are so difficult. Instinct may differ from will. But deny it long enough, and it will destroy you. It cannot be fought, any more than your will to breathe. [His tone darkens] Or to drink blood.

You idealize the humans. No doubt a byproduct of living so long among them. But it will not be long before you see the truth for yourself.
