I'm not certain.

Her name is Marishka. She's a - vampire. [ But not a Chiropteran. He's ever-sensible of the differences. ] She seems to enjoy hunting though.

No I don't think I've ever met anyone with that name before. [She shrugs.] So that's why that boy kept thinking we're vampires. [And here she thought vampires weren't real.]

That boy is deluded. Like most of the City.

They can't even say the word Chiropteran. Much less realize what we are.

[ Worthless bugs. ]

Is it really that hard for them to understand? [Bah, not like it matters, it's more an annoyance than anything else.]

There's so much that taxes their little minds.

[ Onto more important matters. ]

...I've contacted a doctor. To make a housecall and examine you. I hope that's all right.

[ The idea of babies - Diva's babies - is feeding him with an antsy anticipation. He can't begin to imagine how it must be for her. ]

[She nods as she's not entirely disagreeable to doctors, just the crackpot ones that want to experiment on her.]

Does he understand, I'm not human?

[Because it is not as if she can play at being human in this situation.]

[ That's a loathing he shares and understands well. ]

He knows what we are. To an extent.

He's ready to do a preliminary check-up at home. But he says it's better to deliver the babies at the hospital. It'll be more comfortable for you, certainly.

[ The latter is - always - his greatest concern. ]

Good. I don't like pretending to be human.

[In fact she hates pretending to be human. Especially when she's force to socialize with them and be paraded around as Amshel's daughter.]

Can he be trusted?

[She hasn't met the man so she can't make the judgement call. But she trusts Karl wouldn't leave her in the hands of someone who would harm her or her children.]

We needn't pretend. Not here.

[ He certainly doesn't. It's earned him enemies, true. But that's no different from back home. There are always enemies. Small-minded pests trying to subdue what they can't control. No matter. ]

[ Better they focus on Karl - than Diva. ]

He's reliable. And discreet. He knows enough not to cross our family.

[ The consequences of hurting her - the babies - would be ugly. Death may be impermanent here. But there's other ways - bloody, leisurely - to torment a man. He's confident, however, it won't come to that. Chase is serious about his work. The right man for the job. ]

[She's observant enough to note that Karl didn't exactly answer her question, but his answer is good enough. They don't need to trust the man as long as he does his job and keeps his nose out of their business in general.]

Very well. When does he intend to come by?

[ For examining a pregnant Queen, Solomon would've been the obvious choice. The most trusted, certainly. But Karl has no intention of involving him. Not after learning he betrayed Diva. ]

[ Anyway. Merlin's spell has left him useless in that area. ]

He'll drop in later today. Once the crowds have dwindled.

Hopefully he won't drop in before we've had a little fun with some of that crowd~

[She giggles amused as her mind is still on toying with some of the visiting hordes and well some of them do seem to catch her interest now and then.]

If he does, we'll tell him to wait.
