[debrief]

[ Coulson's sitting on a bench in the park. There's a black labrador puppy curled up by his feet, tongue lolling out.

To the very trained and familiar observer, it'll be clear that Coulson's still holding himself a little more stiffly than usual, but for the most part he looks relaxed and calm. Approachable, even. ]

I'm going to have to find you a name, won't I? [ The puppy whines happily.

Coulson shakes his head slowly. When he speaks again, his voice in the same deliberate and even tone, he seems to be addressing empty air: ] Barton, if you're going to follow me around, at least be more subtle about it.

I wouldn't have taken him if I didn't. [ He likes the puppy. And his schedule here is going to be a lot less insane than it is at home, apparently. ]

Have you settled in, then?

[debrief]

I'm getting there. Having a puppy helps. [ As does having the Avengers here, to some extent. ]

You oughta get dinner with Bucky and me. We're boring but at least we know the best place to get a corned beef sandwich.

[debrief]

I'd like that. [ OH GOD CAPTAIN AMERICA ASKED HIM FOR DINNER. ] And I sincerely doubt you're boring, either of you.

[punchedhitler]

We argue a lot about who's dumber, Phil.

[debrief]

Neither?

[punchedhitler]

Well, one of us is bound to be. It depends on the day.

[debrief]

I find it hard to believe that you're either dumb or boring.
