[ Coulson's sitting on a bench in the park. There's a black labrador puppy curled up by his feet, tongue lolling out.

To the very trained and familiar observer, it'll be clear that Coulson's still holding himself a little more stiffly than usual, but for the most part he looks relaxed and calm. Approachable, even. ]

I'm going to have to find you a name, won't I? [ The puppy whines happily.

Coulson shakes his head slowly. When he speaks again, his voice in the same deliberate and even tone, he seems to be addressing empty air: ] Barton, if you're going to follow me around, at least be more subtle about it.

[ ooc; Feel free to run into him at the park or on his way home. Coulson adopted a puppy from Thor. Also, tags may or may not contain spoilers, so proceed with caution? ]

[He shrugs, looking a little embarrassed.] It's okay. Anyone else would have helped, too.

[ He really appreciates it, though. ] Still. Whatever you did, it helped a lot.

I'm glad.

It was magic—a Curaga spell. Best thing when you get really hurt in battle.

Do you need to use it regularly? [ You're just a kid. You shouldn't have to know about getting hurt in battle. ]

Not really, here in the City. Back home I did. [I'm like...three years old now. Ish. That's totally mature.]

What kind of world are you from? [ Somehow, that does not make him feel better. ]

[AWKWARD FIDGET.] That's kinda complicated.

I didn't need to use it every day.

All right. [ Filing that away for future reference. ] Still, thank you and I'm sorry you had to see that.

[Whew] Don't worry about it. What...happened to you, anyway?

I got stabbed. [ Deadpan. ]

Oh. [Beat.] That stinks.

It wasn't pleasant. [ Understatement of the year. ]

No kidding.

You probably won't get stabbed here. Weird stuff happens in the City, but it's not so bad.

I'm certainly not looking for a repeat performance.

Just watch out for the curses.

I will. Though from what I heard, watching out for them isn't a guarantee here.

It's not. But it makes me feel a little better to try and be ready for them, at least.

So what's it like where you come from? Your world.

I'd say normal but that's probably not helpful.

Probably not. Normal's different for everyone.

Even in my world, normal differs greatly depending on where one's from.

Yeah? I guess that makes sense. I've never been that good at normal myself.

I do fairly well at it. [ For a certain definition of normal, anyways. But that is the image he'd like to maintain. Just your average, normal guy. ]
