First Prank: Grand Entrance

[A charming smile with wide and innocuous green eyes, though the glitter in them is something less than harmless and innocent. When he speaks, his voice is light and engaging. Ignore the fact that he’s soaking wet.]

Hello out there!

[The volume is a bit loud and he winces before catching it and allowing his features to adjust back into that beguiling smile. He fixes the volume, teeth catching his lower lip in an expression that really is innocent. His charm does not fade as he speaks again]

Let's try this again? Ah. Better. Now. It seems there has been a terrible mistake, a grave error, I am entirely unsure of where I am, only that I woke up here- yes! woke up!- after being dumped in a fountain and er- found this Stark phone on my person. .

Obviously, whoever has done this has the wrong person entirely. I am no one at all of consequence, a Parisian orphan.

[He frowns and the expression is solemn, pious]

Now, if you please, could someone tell me how far back to Paris?

[OoC Note: Serrure speaks in the All Tongue (he understands every language, anyone he speaks to will understand him) but he thinks he's speaking in French and will assume everyone else is, too.]

I did make it clear that I was a street kid in Paris, yes? I am used to avoiding people offering shiny objects to lure me into dark places?

All I'm offering is a tour. Take it or leave it.

If you're going to the Underground, it's better to have someone who knows the area around. But I'm sure you'll fare just as well on your own.

[Le Shrug. Your loss, kid.]

[He considers]

All right. I shall take it.

I'll come fetch you from the fountain. If that is where you are.

I shall meet you there, and tell my roommate. You know, in case I do not return.

[And he will be watching the fountain long before he actually approaches it.

[Karl is settled casually on one of the benches. Looking perfectly innocent - but for a flickering glint in his eye. A snake in lying the grass.]

[He finds newcomers to be the easiest snacks. But this one amuses him. He'll offer him a tour - and see where things lead from thereon.]

[Catching light footsteps with his heightened senses, he glances up.]

I like to get a look at those I intend to wander off into dark and potential body dumping locations with.

Just saying. [But he is confident in his own abilities, namely averting disaster by a hairsbreadth.]

You've just met me. And already you assume I'm a serial killer. How wounding.

[Not. The boy's instincts are on the mark. Not that Karl will admit it. Rising with a wry smile, he gestures.]

Well, then. Off to the 'dark, body-dumping locations' we go.

I assume everyone is a serial killer until proven otherwise. [And he's flashing you a grin that says he means exactly every word he is saying.]

One wonders how you make any friends.

[Hands in pockets, he leads the way. There are several entrances to the Underground. But he chooses the easiest one - for the benefit of his little guest. With a sideways smile, he asks:]

What year are you from, in your own world?

Who says I have friends?

[He grins at that and takes note of the entrance, memorizing it. You know, just in case.]

I hail from 2009. Interesting year. Great year for technology. You?

A lone spirit, as well as a free one?

[Karl's preternatural senses aren't catching anything unusual yet. But he wonders if the boy is human. On the crowded topside, it's harder to concentrate on an aura. But once they're Underground it'll be easier to tell.]

2006. Eons before your time. When dinosaurs roamed the earth.

[Said with considerable dryness.]

Oh, very much before my time. [Eyelids drop and he says the words with no little private amusement.]

A lone spirit. A long wolf. I am told wolves go mad when they are alone, but what if one is not innately desirous of a pack structure? [He doesn't even know he's not human, there are suspicions, oh but he tucks those away in the dark corners of his mind.]

[Whether the boy knows or not, in the Underground's relatively closed space, Karl will be able to tell.]

Then that wolf goes mad. Naturally.

But madness isn't always as dreadful as others make it out to be. If anything it can be quite liberating.

[Just ask Karl.]

[As they descend into the City's depths, Serrure may notice a palpable change in the atmosphere. The Underground suits its namesake. Dark, gloomy, appropriately forbidding. A place where only a certain type of creatures feel at home.]

What would you like to see first? The Black Market? The Casino?

Unless the other wolves are simply too dull and the wolf would have gone mad there, anyway. [The faint flash of a smile.]

The Black Market. Gambling is for suckers. Trust me, I'll show you sometime.

[It's what he does for a living, cheating people with three card monte. And he can feel the change in atmosphere, fights not to hunch in on himself.]

[Karl lets off a laugh at that. A half-cackle, almost.]

That usually is the case. Especially with those who live topside. They're more like fat puppies than wolves.

[He leads towards the Black Market. It would do Serrure well to walk tall. The Underground is full of predators - on two legs or four or even six. Always on watch for weak prey. Karl's been among the ranks of those, before ever arriving in the City.]

Oh? Is that what you are? A cardsharp?

Then you live down here? [Oh, that was another red flag.]

Something like that. [He doesn't know that in truth, he uses magic to cheat. But he is a predator as well, sharp eyes, sharp smile, always watching. He simply doesn't know his vulnerabilities.]

No. I live topside, unfortunately. But my business is Underground.

[If he could, he'd move down here. But his elder brother - wary of Karl's questionable hobbies - had set him up in the Cathedral. To keep an eye on him. Make sure no one else got slaughtered.]

A card-shark orphan in Paris, eh? Sounds like the makings of a movie.

[They enter the Black Market. Crowded, as ever, awash with strange wares, strange noises - and stranger people. In dark corners, Karl can sense other vampires lurking. Sizing up the newcomer at his side.]

What business is that?

[He is unsure he truly wants the answer, and his eyes are flickering over the area, the wares, the people, he sees those predatory gaze and narrows eyes on them, green fire practically dancing in their pupils.]

I should star in it. No one is quote so rogishly handsome.

I manage a vampire bar.

[A perfectly legit establishment, believe it or not. It's just Karl's after-work activities that raise eyebrows.]

And what would the title be?

[If Karl abandons the boy, the other vampires will be on him in a heartbeat. Humans - children - wandering in the Underground are rarely safe. But Karl has no intention of doing so. This evening may prove most entertaining yet.]

Mm. Wearing black leather and making bite puns?

[Oh but he is only starting to realize that this might be the case. An inward sigh, but he's yet to accept he isn't the master of the situation.]

A Series of Unfortunate Events.

[There are humans who visit the bar because they enjoy being bitten. But Karl rarely seeks them. Only a pathetic housepet eats food served on a platter. The real joy of feeding is in the hunt. In imbibing the victim's fear.]
